Here are several images taken with the Z9 and 400mm f4.5. The first two images were taken a couple weeks ago with the 2x teleconverter, while the last two images were taken yesterday with the 1.4x teleconverter. All were shot wide open.
All these great bird photos made me check out getting this lens even though I only own a Z6. After reading some reviews I put my name on notification list at Pictureline yesterday and today I got an email that it was available. So should have it next week!
FYI they had a few in stock . They were showing 4 in stock this afternoon after I ordered it.
Some images of an NZ Dotterel chick. All with 1.4x and processed from LR with minimal adjustments. If interested, you can read the story here: https://www.instagram.com/clarisofwaiwera/
My apologies for sharing a lens field test article in an image thread, but the images in this review are also gorgeous and the review aligns well with the feedback we're seeing in this thread.

Short-eared owl in the dusk light (showed up 5 mins before sunset and was gone the next minute. I was waiting for it for 2-3 hours). Better luck next time.
Beautiful shot. Question about your iso. Do you use auto iso or set it manually? I use auto iso and it always seems to end up higher than I think it should be. 5 min before sunset and f 6.3 I would have thought it would have been higher than your Exif shows.

Auto iso capped at 6400 (I don't like shooting at higher than that).
This specific case is a backlit situation - the sun just got covered in clouds and setting behind the owl to the left out of the frame (I had to pull the shadows to make this work because otherwise I'd just blow out the sky).
I was pretty impressed how Z9 picked the owl up in these conditions and how maleable the file was (tbh I thought this is definitely going to be deleted once imported to LRc).
