A while back a photo buddy and I stopped in at one of my old tucked away places to visit. Though that day there was not anything going on I thought it would be a productive place for Green Herons when the timing was right. I made that visit in the early evening and was lucky to have a performing Green Heron once coaxed out of cover!
The light was nice, some warmth in it early then went a bit cool as the sun was setting. It is hilarious to watch the snatch and grab and then to see the Heron fuss over rinsing it off a dozen times and shaking it out Here are some of the story telling shots as I first saw it and some favorites after it got out in the open. I will have 1 or 2 more posts to follow with a fun sequence to share too.
These all are significant crops, shot off a monopod with A1 and 200-600, processed in LR and Topaz at times. Comments and suggestions are always welcomed as are any questions.
Thanks for your visit!

1 First you have to spot them

2 Then hope they are coaxed out
3 And leave their cover to find some solo perches in the open

Excellent set Karl. They tell the story well. The environment is amazingly similar to where I've been seeing them. 6 is a very attractive image. The heron is doing all that work for those little snacks.
Do you shoot videos too? Would make for some nice wildlife videos.
For us in the US, herons seem commonplace, but these are considered exotic birds in many places.
Great images, beautiful setting, good looking bird = success. Love the rich greens in the environment part of the images. Well done all the way around.

I'm looking forward for your future posts.

Thanks much Morris. It amazed me just how fussy over such a little snack! Quite hilarious to see all that went into cleaning it off before playing with it then finally eating it

Videos? What are those? Shamefully I forget I even have video options, I will have to spend some time someday and learn how to use that feature as it would be quite nice in a few actions I witnessed. Thanks
