p.1 #1 · Desperately seeking tripod ring for old Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS USM
I "helped" a friend with limited budget find a fine used 300mm f/2.8. It arrived without the tripod collar and I've searched until my fingers are sore - no luck finding a replacement part.
Seeking suggestions. Posting on the buy/sell forum too.

You could try https://uscamera.com/ or any camera repair facility looking for a used collar. I suspect that with covid, a few have folded, so this might be a difficult find. I don't know if you can pull one off another lens and adapt one to fit an old 300?
Sorry, I just checked and it didn't score a hit. The part # is: YG9-0618 and it is unlikely you'll find one easily. I think you might want to look for a lens of similar dimension and try to find a collar which might fit? Another possibility is to reach out to: http://www.hejnarphotostore.com/default.asp. He machines a variety of replacement feet and other parts for lenses though I don't believe he offers tripod rings? I can vouch for the quality of his components and perhaps he can craft something for you? Alternatively, you could reach out to Kirk enterprises? They make some tripod rings though I don't believe they have one for the 300 f/2.8. Best of luck.

I got one of those (early, non-IS version), and it had the collar, but not the tripod foot. I found this extremely difficult to find, as that earlier model's foot was quite different than the later 300 f/2.8s. I eventually got it sorted, and in the process came into possession of a later model's foot that didn't work for me. So if anyone is looking for a foot, lemme know. I have an extra and am willing to give to a good home. -tig

Here's a wild and crazy idea. Even though this lens is no longer supported by Canon I would give the Canon Parts Order Desk a call at (866) 481-2569 anyway, unless you already tried, and see if by chance they still have one hanging around in their stock somewhere. I see that there is also a lower level parts list for the 14 part numbers with quantities that it is comprised of that may be a longshot if all are still in stock.
It's not a perfect fit as the inner diameter of this is 87mm, the outer diameter of the collar mount is 88mm. With a little dremel magic on the collar i was able to push it past through the 4 screws in the collar mount. Might need to use a pry bar to open the collar up just enough so you could slide it through. A few dabs of oil/lubricant will ease the process. Overall it's rock solid and the best thing is it's already Arca mount.

Note, the lens is already scratched up before i installed the ring.
