This isn’t rocket science, but I have pressed on “A” and tried to push the shoe cover off….but this sucker wont budge. Press and push isn’t working. Anyone…..

Don't lose it, I've heard - though can't confirm - that folks have had problems with similar set ups shorting out in wet shooting conditions.

So what happens when it shorts out? Battery melt down? Camera circuit board fried? What?

I don't see the R7 as a body that should be used in the wet without a cover. The hot shoe would not be my only concern. I suspect that many users will experience a lost cover early on.

I'm having the same problem. Good thing I don't use flash very often!

It never had one (from the factory). Only the R7 and R3 (and possibly R5C) have it, with the new hot shoe. The R3 and R7 hot shoe covers (different from each other) don't fit the R5. I am using the R7 cover on the R3 because the R3 original falls out daily. Fortunately now you can order spares, which I did.

Yeah, doesn't take much losing the R3 cap. You just look at it the wrong away and boom it's gone. Now that they have them I bought a few spares, but the R7 cap fits the R3 as well and is basically non-losable, so I prefer that one.
