In the Macaulay Library/eBird photo feed of the Canadian photographer Simon Villeneuve all 330 photos after 16 October 2022 are with Z9 and 800mm PF. Scrolling though this large sample of bird photos gives a stellar impression of the sharpness, background rendering and BIF AF of this combination.

Wifey & I visited the outlaws over the weekend and one of the "things to see" in the area are the Prairie Dogs. While they are basically glorified, destructive, burrowing rodents, they are quite cute to see - particularly when it only on occasion.
Shot in DX Mode.

Beautiful little animal Nice job Phil! Does DX mode in the Z9 mean that this is effective 1200mm?
Thank you Robert.
Yes, it does. In most cases, it generates very nice images - as long as you're not planning on huge prints (but I guess that's where something like giga-pixel comes into play).

Not my listing and dont know the seller, but there is a great price on an 800PF on the B&S boards right now if anyone is tired of waiting.
One from a walk this week in Florida.
While tempting - it's still more expensive that buying it here in Canada new. Probably something to do with exchange rates & one of the reasons our market didn't get many of those lenses so far.

Slim pickings for me in the middle of January. A flock of cold tolerant robins allowed me to test the performance of the 800PF in challenging backlit conditions.

Had a great day in the forest today.
Lots of hiking, easily done with the lightweight 800PF. Was lucky to get some really nice captures of wild boars, deer and birds of prey. I will upload some more from the day once i am done editing.
This particular one just stepped onto my path at the perfect moment, with the vegítation and trees allowing for this tunnel effect.
Noise removed and some creative color editing done in lightroom.

Well it was a typical morning at Huntington Beach State Park until the Cedar Waxwings showed up. Here is a selection using the Z9 and 800pf (a few with a TC1,4X added)

Cannot recall ever seeing CWW's like these George!
I wish you would find out what species of vegetation (moss?) that is on that tree. And what species of tree it is too. That would be interesting.
Just a request..... if/when you get to it.
Have you seen your mink friend lately? I enjoy those mink images perhaps the most.
Is this lens easy to handhold?
Robert
Thanks Robert! I think that is Lichen and the tree was on its last legs, pretty much dead. I'll see if I can find out what kind of tree. Oh and the mink is around but I have not been at the right place at the right time but its there!

In answer to your question, yes the lens is easy to handhold. These were all handheld at Barnegat Jetty in a 20-25 mph wind. The large lens hood was not helping keeping it steady
