This is more like it Lance, some small birds, feather detail, excellent work, greatly appreciated. Keep them coming if you can. Will you be ordering one, or already done!?!

Thank you very m uch, Snapquacky. Much appreciated! I have had mine on order since the day it was announced. However, from what I am hearing, it could be a looong time before I see it.

Smart man, regret not ordering one myself much earlier, might have had it by now, still, good things come to those who wait

First shots in my backyard. Impressed with the sharpness, bokeh, and AF speed. Final image is with the 1.4x wide open, really nice to see how well that holds up.
Unfortunately, my aging body is not as happy handholding long glass and big camera combo compared to my younger years, so may have to sell the 800 (and possibly Z9).

The lens itself feels shockingly light when no body is attached, considering the powerful focal length. Only when it was mounted to my Z9 fitted with RRS L-plate did I start feeling the fatigue of handholding sooner than I thought I would. Out of curiosity I just mounted the 800 to my Z6 with RRS grip plate and am surprised how much more nimble and light that feels.
I’ve greatly enjoyed using the Z9 in the field this year and I honestly believed the weight was not a concern, and have been a big proponent of the large integrated grip form factor. Until now. I guess I will now join the ranks of the many who are looking forward to a future Nikon body that has similar AF as the Z9 but not the weight.
Or maybe I just need to hit the weight room more often :-)

I did not think this image would be any good at all. I was walking along the reeds and this little guy suddenly starts flying from reed to reed. I turned and snapped off about 20 images while the focus did not indicate a solid lock. But when i came home most of those 20 images were pin sharp.

Your story is fascinating, from the beginning (launch of the Z9) I have literally been stumped by how many people report that they like the Z9 form factor, and especially weight, with big lenses, while at the same time jubilating about the lighter form factor of the new and modern Nikon Z super telelenses, saying how glad they are Nikon shed some weight on these monsters.
I find that rather schizofrenic, and can only explain it with the fact that Nikon gives their users no other choice currently than to simply put up with the form factor of the Z9, and what better way than to accept it than by deciding that you love it?
Your story seems fully logical and sound to me. I am on the pre-order list for a Z800PF, but in no hurry as long as my best option is the Z6II/Z7II, as I simply refuse to add 500 totally useless grams where the Z800 is so brilliant in shedding a lot of weight.

Some of it is surely cognitive dissonance. It's hard to talk about the negatives of a camera that you just spent 6K on. I am betting a lot of people if they had the choice would go with a gripless version if it existed.
