"My 800PF serial number ended with 2103 and I got mine on the launch day. I am not sure if a new model of lens always start with serial number xxx0000"

Nikon usually keeps the first 100-200 lenses as they are either early models/prototype’s and or are NPS loaners and Nikon School and or sales representatives get some too. As far as anything starting with a 30xxxx or 35xxxx in the beginning is for USA Model/Warranty camera bodies. Lenses typically start with a 20xxxxxx here in the USA and in Japan, but I’ve also seen some USA lenses with 40xxxxxx and 60xxxxx starting serial numbers so anything is possible I guess. However I’m absolutely sure about the serial numbers on big glass. I have been owning and using big primes for 25 years now. I’ve owned about 40 different big primes and zooms since 1998! 200mm f/1.8 Canon, 300mm f/2.8 Canon and Nikon every AF/IS/VR version made. Every 400mm and 500mm from Canon and Nikon as well. I’ve even been lucky enough to try a friends dad’s Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6L lens! My ultimate favorite would be the Nikon 500mm f/4E VR FL and the Nikon 800mm f/5.6E VR FL. I also loved the 400FL, but I only had it for about 6 months before switching to the 500FL! Anyways I also was the used buyer for a large store here in SoCal. I’m now a newspaper photographer and have access to lots of gear. I believe Nikon truly has made over 2500 copies so far! You'll see I’m right if you research or ask around here.

Nice. I have been fortunate enough to own most of the Nikon big glass. I too loved the 800 5.6. Shot it with the 1.25 TC a lot on the APS-C D500 for skittish waterfowl and small birds. The 800 6.3 is amazing....the images seem to be neck and neck with the 800 5.6 so far in my limited use which is mind boggling considering the cost/weight.
A newspaper photographer....becoming a "rarer bird" these days. I have shot some high school sports for a local paper over the last decade as well as some D1 football. Looking forward to the Fall

I have no idea about the credential of the poster of the website or how he collects all of his data, mine you.
At least he claims that 800PF serial number starts with 20002001.
Most Nikon Z lenses either start with 20000001 or 20002001 it seems. There are a few 30000001.
I don't know how accurate this is but looking through about 10 of my Z lenses, nothing is in conflict with his data yet.
I guess if someone has 20000xxx or 20001xxx serial number 800PF then we know for sure that he is incorrect but so far
I have not seen any, have you?
Regardless, according to Ricky's 800PF serial number, there are at least 1500+ 800PF out there.
May be 3500+ as you said if it starts with 20000001.

I am new to the FM forum, but I know that Roland (the gentleman in New Zealand who has collected the data for the above referenced website) has been collecting this data for over 25 years now, probably much longer. Pretty sure the site is reliable. Nice to see his site is still up, and is still growing :-).
On a different note, has anyone received their 800mm f/6.3S lens yet, who is not an NPS member? I ordered on the release day, but at 2pm PST from B&H, not NPS. Pretty sure I still have a bit of a wait ahead...

Baby Blue Bird...30yds, Z9- 800mm pf...If Nikon ever makes a mirrorless camera like a D6 at 24mg with Z9 af I think 800pf will work very well in lower light with flying birds.

Thank You,
I loved my D6 and 600mm fl but I liked the silent shutter and sold them.. I tried the early Z's...they forced me to try Canon and it is great equipment and I still use it. Being a Nikon user for years and being able to get a Z9 things have gotten much better.. I still have a lot of older glass that does work very well with the adapter. I have the 500mm pf and even with the adapter it's great on the Z9...I picked up the 100-400 and now the 800mm, I couldn't ask for more, these lighter setups are the best. I'm retired now, would love to try the new 400mm 2.8 little to pricey for me right now. When Nikon come out with a Z6 ....z9 af iso that would be killer. I gotten great shots at 21mg, I think colors are better, just have to get a little closer at times. they really handle the low light very well when you need shutter speed.
