Thank you George and Lance. I was shooting the D6 with the 600 fl and I loved that setup, see how I do in low light, but like a lot of people said image stabilization is mint...and holding the setup I feel 20 years younger lol..

Keep posting suteetat. I enjoy seeing what others are getting out of this lens.
Hazy , hot and humid here with very few subjects. At least we had rain last night that cleared the air for a while this morning. Here a couple from this am while riding our Doberman around.
All shot with the 800/6.3 with 1.4 TC - 1120 mm F9.
None of what I have posted are anything to write home about. I am very interested as I am sure others are in how the 1.4 TC with this lens behaves. My previous posts show the haze that we experience this time of year. These two especially the first one reveals the potential of the 800/1.4 TC combo potential after the rain last night.

Thanks for posting these last two sets Rimpson, I'm always interested in 800PF images, and the subjects people capture with it.
Too bad Nikon is not able to meet their pre-order demand... I think I am finally ready to bite the bullet...
On the other hand, if the price of the 180-400 f/4 falls down to the 800PF price range, I could be tempted to throw my dollars in that direction instead.

You are welcome Bruce.
It seems to me this lens(800PF) with the 180-400 TC is a really good setup. Add a 30+ MP mirrorless D500 like body with optional grip as a second body to the Z9....and that would be a great kit from mammals to small birds.

Birds and Barbwire - More 800 / 1.4 TC shots. Would have been nice to get these on natural perches but it helps me to see what this lens can do with this combo. This is one reason I wanted this lens. With TC'S and adapted lenses with the Z9 800mm can be obtained several ways but of course not at this weight and portability not to mention the adapter.

A few pictures from today's walk.
f6.3, 1/250, iso 720
f6.3, 1/80, iso 560
f6.3, 1/80, iso 2500
I would love to try the owlet in flight but they don't really do anything much until well after 6pm.
To get decent SS, my iso would be like 25600 or higher. 400/2.8 would require significant croppinig.

The 800 looks gorgeous, but Thom Hogan suspects the 200-600 could be announced soon. So, I think I'll hold off on buying 800 until I see what happens over the next couple of months.....not that I have a choice because the 800 isn't showing up in my neck of the woods. lol

Wow that is really cool!! Never saw Bats like that! Had one in the shower with me though in Kenya!
We have quite a few places over here where you can see millions of bats (supposedly). Unfortunately they come out
of their caves at dusk and go back in at dawn so light is always a problem. They dont fly all that high above viewing area but
they are only a size of a sparrow.

I’ve seen serial numbers above/ending in 2500 now so Nikon has been producing a lot of 800pf lenses or had a sizable stock to begin with, maybe now they have depleted all stock and are playing catch up? For reference Nikon only ever made about 2,000 copies of the original 800mm FL in the past 11 years. So the fact Nikon has been able to produce and deliver over 2500 copies (give or take) is amazing to me! My 500FL has a serial number in the 203800 range or 3800 copies and I’ve only seen a few with higher and none more than 4500, so Nikon does not typically make many of the big lenses. Obviously the 200-400mm were more mass produced with approximately 12,000 copies of each version being made. I’d predict Nikon will produce and deliver 5,000 or more 800pf lenses just in the first year of production based on current numbers. Although I admit that’s just a wild guess and based on my limited knowledge lol. I think the amount of interest on the Z9 and 800pf surprised even Nikon! They obviously didn’t expect quite so many orders! I think Nikon did well to have about 2,000+ copies ready for launch! Good job Nikon!

You will get your 800pf. Not every NPS order can jump the line. If a regular order is early enough, you will get yours from the place you ordered.
It's not like your lcs can control how many NPS order got shipped. This is directly coming from Nikon. Nikon ship nps orders with a name on it to the store. If Nikon have enough stock, they will send let say 5 with nps names on them. But they will also send a couple of extra for the store to fufill their regular orders even though the store might have 10 nps orders.
When Nikon doesn't have anything to ship, they have nothing to ship. Many NPS members(including myself) are still waiting for the 400S. This is normal for just released and high demand gear.
Also, it is still very early to speculate about 800pf stock.
