p.1 #1 · Nike Lens Filter L37 vs L37C

Hi,

I don’t wander over to the Nike forum at all, but I recently began experimenting with a Canon 50mm nFD f1.8 lens on a Canon m50 mirrorless camera.

Someone gave me some Nikon 52mm lens filters that fit the Canon lens.

Just curious what the difference is between a Nikon 52mm L37 and L37C filter?

Thank for letting a Canon guy stop by.

Best,
Mike

By chance do you mean L37 instead of 137?

If so, the "C" means it's coated.

An L37 would be ancient.

L37 was Nikon's clearest, least-tinted "UV" filter, sold mostly as "lens protection". The L37C was the newer, multiple layer anti-reflection coated version. The L37C is better, because it is less likely to cause added lens flare/back-reflections than the old single layer coating. I consider the L37C still a viable clear filter for those times when you want one.
The Nikon NC ("Neutral Color") filter is the current equivalent product.
Nikon did make at least one "thicker" UV filter they called the L39, that has a distinct light brownish color. Great for making a smoggy day look smoggier!
