Just got my copy of this lens. Love how small it is but love the resulting images it produces.
Has anyone tried to mount this lens on the new Techart EA9 adapter? I cannot get the lens to mount. It fits in the slot but will not turn to lock in. Anyone else try?

Hi! I am very close to getting this lens, the silver one given the issues with the black one and the m10.
But I am bit concerned about the following statement =
"Focus and aperture rings do not rotate independently"
Can someone please clarify what that means?
If I change aperture the lens moves focus or if I move focus the lens changes aperture?
And how do you deal with the above.
Thanks.
The aperture ring rotates along with the focusing helicoid but aperture setting doesn't change while focusing. It's best to set aperture first while at infinity focus position and then focus as desired. If you focus first it's a bit difficult to move the aperture afterwards without also affecting focus.
^ This is a good description. It operates a little differently than a regular lens due to it's tiny size. Takes one outing to get used to using this lens and the results are worth it.

Check this video from around 3min mark:
Thanks! This is of great help, seems a bit of an inconvenience, but given i am planning to use this lens at f2.8 or f4, i guess i can learn to deal with it

It is very easy to file the actuator tab on the lens so that it brings up the 35 frame lines. The camera defaults to 35mm with no lens installed, so if you file too much, no harm done. But no turning back if you want 50mm.
This lens is much closer to the 35mm frame lines than it is the 50mm if you check with live view.

Thanks Rob. Yes, I know filing works easily, however, I would need to know just how close it would be to 35mm to justify such a modification.
Unfortunately, in Leica's infinite wisdom, the M11 live-view doesn't offer 100% view of the frame. As ridiculous as that sounds one needs to take a picture in order to see the full frame.

Just picked up a used copy of this lens, VM version, black. This was an online purchase from a camera store about 600km from me, so no opportunity to try before buying.
Briefly tested it during a rainy walk in the woods (not so great light) and so far I'm not feeling the excitement others have expressed for it. I think I'm OK with most of its quirks, such as the aperture ring rotating when focusing. My intention is to mostly use it as an f/8 'snapshot' lens, but was hoping for pretty high across-frame performance/sharpness by f/5.6-8 based on the earlier test by Fred and other images, including Juha's sets (I realize the far corners may never become sharp). Instead, on my M240, I'm seeing OK sharpness and what looks like field curvature coming towards the camera at the edges that is still noticeable at f/8. TBH, its stopped down look is reminding me a lot of my LLL 35 Cron V1 replica (sharp, but not 'modern' sharp) but without the wide open mojo option of the LLL.
For other VM40 Heliar owners, are you seeing some field curvature at farther distances? If aiming for optimal across-frame sharpness, is it better to focus in the midfield instead of the center?
