I photographed this sequence in a small preserve 3 miles east of the New York City line. It's dense suburbia in this location and like most of the New York City Metropolitan Area is great for birding. I was standing with a number of photographers photographing the eagle in a tree just over the nest when it took off and flew away from us. I observed the direction it flew and followed it hoping to get closer and an opportunity for flight images. It was perched high in a tree and I was able to get a clear view from the trail I was on. Another photographer was there and she told me this was the only opening. I set up with the eagle filling about 1/4 of the frame vertically. I decided to keep my TC in my pocket and use just my 500mm PF so I'd have some space for the wings and a bit of wiggle room when it flew. The other photographer decided to leave and wished me luck in getting flight images. The first image was about 15 minutes later.
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
1) Female calling her mate
2) It did not take him long to show up
3) They both sing
4) Oh my!
5) Unlike little birds, this lasted a long time and I filled my buffer twice
6) And then they separated
7) The male sings
8) After a while, the female joins in the song
9) The look of love
10) It looks like I'm going to get my flight image
11) With a powerful down thrust of those huge wings and a kick of the legs
Excellent work with these images you've documented this activity extremely well Morris. The technicals in each of these images is spot on, incredible detail.

Great Series!
I like the fact that you are able to use the Nikon 500PF on your X-T3.
Should make a nice light weight setup.
Thank you Kenneth,
You are correct and its a pound lighter than when I was using the sigma 150-600 C
