Last weeks solar storms arrived in Alaska in the shadow of the earth. I lost three nights sleep but was blessed with hundreds of views. It was -15 below zero, before the wind chill. So every fifteen mins I would warm up the camera battery in a cool car and then turn up the heat to lukewarm. I wore all my winter gear and brought along a thermos of hot coco. Glad to report the gear all held up fine. More aurora shots in my gallery.

PS Thanks for the feedback, signature is now gone, and playing with contrast revealed the snow reflecting the moons light and looking as if the stars above had fallen to earth, that was fun to find.

That is an absolutely breathtaking shot--and very creatively done! The sense of depth is compelling as are the colors! Thanks for adding the explanatory text as well--makes a complete story!
I was hoping you would enter this one. Better get rid of the 'signature' (tiny though it may be) to keep it within the rules. Excellent entry Mark! Wish I had braved the cold to join you that night.
Typical exposure for my f4 17-40 mm were 20 secs, but anywhere from 10 to 30, and typically I used iso 640 . Results vary with lens and amount of light activity.
thanks, Mark.
