p.2 #1 · Nikon USA Factory - $89 Premium Maintenance experience

I sent my D610 in for the "Premium Maintenance Package" mainly for a sensor cleaning, but I'd like to see if the focus requires less fine-tuning after service.

Sent to Nikon via USPS Priority Mail (2-day) w/ $1,600 insurance. The cheapest USPS shipping option was only $0.20 cheaper so just went with 2-day. $37.60 (AZ to CA shipping).

UPS and FedEx don't have insurance but "declared value" only. Maybe USPS is the same even thought they actually call it insurance. Nevertheless, FedEx would be about $10 more and UPS $15 more. Plus, as amazing as it sounds, the USPS is actually faster than the UPS or FedEx offices. Crazy but true.

Is $37.60 in line with what everybody else pays? Do you bother with insurance or declared value?

I screen shot the entire process if anybody is interested I can post the shots.

Edit: My camera was mailed on 25-April-2022 @ 3:06pm. Email from Nikon requesting me to accept estimate came in 27-April-2022 @ 3:17pm.

My D610 has already been received and entered into their system. $126.32 is the estimated cost. Not sure if that includes return shipping.

Update:

UPS just unexpectedly delivered a package at my door this A.M. (11:15 to be exact) and it's my returned Nikon D610. Interesting. No email from Nikon explaining that my camera service was complete. No email explaining that my camera will be return shipped soon. No tracking #. Nothing. Just my returned camera on my doorstep.

Nikon also charged my CC for a dollar more than the repair costs, then reversed those charges and charged me the correct amount. This anomaly didn't effect me but an email would have been nice when my CC was charged.

I have not tested to see if my 200-500 requires any or different AF fine tuning values. Will do that when I have the time. I included a pic below of the report that came back with camera.

If I remember correctly, Nikon never sent me emails, but the status was to be checked on their website and updated there.

Good to know. Thanks. I didn't think to check the Nikon site.

It's been a while. I was not happy with the outcome of my D810 service, so I sent it back in. Since it was within 90 days the follow up service was no charge. This time I added a note stating how far off the AF calibration was and that I want them to correct it.

Including shipment time, it took about 3 weeks total. They completed the calibration as I instructed, the invoice repair sheet had two new items on it: "ADJ AUTO FOCUS OPERATION" and "ADJ BODY FLANGE BACK". Both AF-D and AF-S lenses now focus correctly and require little-to-no AF micro adjustment.

So lesson learned - do not assume Nikon will perform the calibration just because you paid for the service, they will check but may not alter. Always include a note stating exactly what you're seeing and what you want adjusted.
