So this is weird. I was in the Leica Store in Sydney a few days ago and, looking at the Noctilux 50/0.95 in the display case, it didn’t seem all that big to me. Does that mean the Nokton 50/1 is actually small?

Using a different approach, this series is done from .DNG files made with the Noctilux 50/1 code on in camera for both the 50/1 lenses, and the 50 Summilux code on for that one, opened in LR, Auto Tone in LR, and sharpened in PS. The Auto Tone made them too yellow, which I should have corrected, but was halfway through them before I decided that.
When contrast and saturation are adjusted, the bokeh rendering is affected. I see the value in what you have posted since most of us adjust images on an individual basis, but it may be more helpful to see them with no adjustments or with identical adjustments.
My SL2-S arrived today, so I'm still considering which 50 to get for wide-open bokeh. I currently have only the 28 Lux, CV 50 APO, and CV 75 1.5. Still leaning toward re-acquiring the 50 Lux BC, but you never know if an f/1 is calling instead

It's not only shorter in length, the Voigtlander 50/1 Nokton is lighter too.
Here are their measurements without the hood. (keep in mind the 0.95 has a built-in hood)
As a curiosity, the rear element rotates when focusing for both Leica Noctilux lenses just like with the 50/1.4 Lux.
The Voigtlander 50/1's rear element does not rotate. Also, the rear element for both Leica lenses is noticeably larger than the Voigt's.

Yes, I have both lenses. I will test them out. The difference in size/weight between M10-R + CV 50/1.2 vs A7R4 + GM 50/1.2 is comical tough.
David vs Goliath but this time it won't end up well for David.
Really interesting to see the Noctilux tests. The Voigtlander compares well, actually, though I prefer the f1.2 Nokton in the other side-by-sides.
Makes me even more curious to see how the 50GM fares in rendering. That lens has a lot of praise on a technical level, but I haven't seen that much comparison here when it comes to rendering (or maybe I missed it).

If I was only allowed a single lens for a digital Leica M, I’d choose the 50 Lux BC without a moment’s hesitation. (For a film M, it would be the Dual Range Summicron 50.)

I find the 50/1.2 GM's rendering pleasant. Very similar to the 50/1.2 Nokton's. Except at close distance where the Nokton has noticeable SA.
