Have the camera about a week now, other than some initial focus issue, could be me, has trouble locking on, but once there it's great, still learning, love the camera !

But twice today weather in the low 30's camera locked up while I was shooting, removed and reinstalled battery and worked fine, I even changed the CF card and it did it the second time. Using Nikon 600 mm fl and the 1.4lll.

I don’t in any way think that is normal. Did it give you an error code? If it happens again I would send to Nikon.

I am having this issue the last 3 days..When i turn on the camera and try to press the shutter for the first time it shows the below error:

"Error.
Press shutter-release button to reset."

I tried cleaning up all my contacts but no luck. This error started showing up after FW update 1.10 and continues with Fw 1.11

I was shooting a favorite Hawk and never looked for a code...wanted to get back to shooting. I have the Canon R5 same issue at times.... taking off the battery and reinstalling would reset it, so I did that with the Z9. Not bashing the R5 great camera, but hope this is minor, really like the Z9 .

I haven't had any issues or errors so far, have read that angelbird cards cause some isseus though.

I was using the Sony Tough cf 128 and have used the anglebird cards, never had a problem..going to reformat all and see what happens.

Ok,so a quick update as yet another guy had a similar problem and removing the battery and putting it back helped and i did not have this error today.

I never removed the battery after buying the camera. In India, the Z9 doesn't come bundled with the MH-33 external battery charger in box. They gave a free EH-7p USB C charger and i was only using that without having had a need to even remove the battery out. Weird but works for now.

I was about to ask if these issues only happen in very cold weather, before I remembered gannis lives in the tropics. 🤔

I think these are just complex computers now a days and they crash every so often. There are threads about A1 locking up, R5 locking up, R3 locking up and now Z9 locking up.

For the record I never had a lockup with mine. I did swap batteries to my 2nd one a couple times and I used a 512GB Sandisk CFExpress card.

Anecdotally, the issue is almost always the memory card in some capacity.

For now I only used one card, reformatted Sony, no issues today ! I will try the other cards same way.

have the Anglebird 160 and Delkin black 256.

Pretty sure even A1 users have had lock-up issues with Sony CF cards.

Indeed. Way too many complaints about Sony cards on FM for me to consider touching them. Sandisk seem to have the best reliability, anecdotally.

I haven't had any lockups with my Z9 and have been shooting in single digit temps for a couple weeks now. I'll be it in that for 3-4 hours at a time.

Certainly not normal. For those who think it was a firmware update kaboshing things, I'd flash the update again

No lock up for me so far since day 1. However, I don't have Sony or Angelbird card though.
Currently I use Lexar, Prograde and Silicon Power Cinema EX card. I might have put in Sony XQD card a few times but I am not sure. So far so good...
