The photo of the fence reminds me the look of the VC 40 1.2, maybe a bit less contrasty? Sold it the last year but I liked it a lot. How do you compare the images from these two?
Wide open, they are very close: smooth background blur, weak corners and vignetting. But the Voigtlander cleans up faster when you stop down. Also, it seems that the VC 40mm is gathering more light at f/1.2 than the 50mm at f/1.1 Also true at f/1.,4 and f/2.0.
As for the TTArtisan 50mm f/1.4: definitively not as good at f/1.4 (vignetting and center sharpness) but better than the 50mm f/1.1 for landscape at f5.6 and beyond.
What I am thinking is that I would use the VC 40mm for very low light scenery, the 50mm f/1.1 for low light portrait and either the TTArtisan 50mm f/1.4 or the Sigma 45mm for landscape shooting.
Interesting lens. I guess the branding, build and coatings are not at the level of Japanese and German glass but some of the optical design choices are appealing. It is getting hard to not pay attention to what is coming from Chinese lens manufacturers these days.

It is tilted for sure. I tried to shim it already but I need to do a better job.
Ok I spent this Sunday afternoon trying to correct the tilt. It was harder than expected as after shimming it I could barely achieve infinity focus wide open. So I had to take the lens apart and needed to grind a bit of one of the the stop as the infinity adjustment piece was already set to the max. Followed by a couple of hours trying to put everything together (helicoids are tricky).
Long story short, it is now behaving good enough for me.
Hi mskad2 glad to see you are using this lens (canon R / NEX / Z right?). Would you be able to show me some photos of where you believe the tilt is happening? - you say this is because one of the stops needs grinding down, does this mean the aperture ring? If you can highlight where you think it maybe happening or some photos I can pass this on so this can be looked into, at the least for lenses sold under the syoptic name. Thanks

Hi Syoptic!!
Give a try at mine before shipping. That would be a great quality control!!

If you look at the picture of the war memorial, you can see that the left side is front focused and the right is slightly back focused (look at the two small bushes at the left and right bottom and the writings on the left and right sides of the memorial).

This is the Sony E mount version.

No I meant focus stop, not aperture ring.
Below the picture showing the "shims" at 4 o'clock. What I was saying is that because of the added thickness of the shims, I was no longer able to achieve infinity focus. But the adjustable focus stop (at 12 o'clock in my picture, brass color) was already maxed out. So I had to take apart the "rear tube" of the lens in order to access the "middle helicoidal" so I can slightly grind the matting tab. Nothing to do with the aperture ring which is in the front of the lens.
Edit: I've just realized that the lens looks very dirty/dusty inside but this is because of me. I did clean it before putting it back together!

Is there any place to order the E mount version? I can’t find it on eBay
There are quite few available on eBay US but they are twice as expensive as I paid for my copy and shipping is from China. Try searching with these keywords (without the quotes): "50mm f1.1 sony -kamlan -aps -slr"
I guess no M mount because they probably designed it for the various mirrorless mounts that are all shorter register distances.
I love how they demonstrated the blur effect of f/0.95 vs. f/1.8 by applying a Gaussian blur filter to the background with really poor masking around the woman.

Marc Alhadeff at Sony Alpha Blog posted a review of this lens. Not sure if better than the Syoptic 50mm f/1.1. Based on the sample images, this f/0.95 seems very soft wide open and at f/1.4. But he is testing on a 50MP Sony A1 so might look good on a A7III. Anyhow, having more options is always nice.
