p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Leica M10-P and M10-R Touchscreen INFO display

Although the manual contains this feature, I was unaware of it as I mainly operate the Leica M10-R in rangefinder mode, making me feel embarrassed. Recently, I discovered that the INFO display on both the M10-P and M10-R models is incredibly useful not only for viewing your current settings, but also for modifying them via the touchscreen.

Previously, I only utilized it to check my battery level and access quick settings, without realizing the settings could be changed through touch. Unfortunately, the vanilla M10 lacks touchscreen functionality. To access the main camera quick settings when in rangefinder mode (LV off), simply press the Center button on the Directional pad and the LCD will display them.

To access the primary camera quick settings while in rangefinder mode (LV off), simply press the 'Center' button located on the Directional pad, and the LCD will display them.

One of the great features is the ability to modify these settings by simply clicking on their respective icons. Suppose I configure the top dial to "M" for ISO settings. In that case, I can directly modify the ISO value by clicking on the current ISO setting and adjusting it through the INFO button. (Item 16 in the above image)

Additionally, it's an excellent way to swiftly enable the 'Wi-Fi' feature when transferring images to the Fotos app and quickly turn on/off GPS as needed (Item 5 in the above image). With these capabilities, it's now effortless to switch between camera profiles and lens detection modes.

As far as I'm aware, the only setting that cannot be modified using the touchscreen is the shutter speed, as it is exclusively controlled by the dial. Please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.

While this may be common knowledge for some, I hope this information is beneficial to those who were previously unaware of this functionality.

Hiding in plain sight ! ( at least for me) Thanks for posting. I hopped from the base M10 to the M10-R not too long ago and never took the time to explore all the new to me, M10-R touch screen features. I can see myself using this INFO button and touch feature every time I pick up the M10-R going forward 👍🏻

I'm glad this was helpful!

I really like setting the top ISO dial to "M" and changing ISO from the INFO display instead. It offers all the ISO settings including Auto.
One can always overwrite this by changing the dial from "M" to whatever setting available there.

Yes, great point, as cool as the ISO dial looks on the M10 series, it's not easy to change in a hurry. Thanks again!

It is if you leave it up and move it with your thumb it's pretty quick. Sometimes if I'm in a hurry I do that and just count the clicks to get to where i need to be.

I saw another INFO button functionality today.
If you set the ISO dial to 100 and the shutter speed dial to Bulb (B), when pressing the INFO button and clicking on "Bulb", you'll see options for bulb exposure time preset from 8 seconds to 16 minutes. This could be an easy shortcut when doing long exposures with the M10-R.

However, to access the bulb exposure time presets, there is an even easier way: Just set the dial to "B" and hold the front "focus button" for about a second.

Yep, use this feature extensively on my M10-P. The touch menu on the M11 is even better. I love the Leica usability features. So straight forward and efficient. A joy to shoot.

Indeed, Leica has taken a step further in refining this aspect with the M11, primarily adopting the software design and functionality from the Q and SL camera bodies. I find it quite handy when using it with my M10-R, especially for wirelessly transferring files to Lightroom. All I have to do is press the Wi-Fi button on the screen and wait for the camera to connect to my Mac.

You know it is not uncommon for people not to be aware of this functionality on many cameras. The LV screen on my Sony also displays most of the relevant camera data. Most people are not aware that these are also hot and you can click on them and adjust them.

I found out about this a few days ago when I actually decided to use the camera! I use mine to preset the LV mode with spot metering. I’m in regular rf mode 99.99% of the time where it uses the traditional center weighted, but this way if you hit LV you also are in spot meter. Which you can move around on the rear screen w your finger.
Leica really has the UIX down.

So, you use the touch screen to change camera profiles?

The only thing I did was to change it so if I am in LV, it is using spot meter as default.

This sounds to be the closest I've heard of to my old Kodak DSC ... it had pixel level rgb values available for the ultimate in spot metering (post-capture,think Polaroid-esque). Will have to check it out.

“Beneficial to those who never bother reading the manual”. Even though I keep telling people to read the manual they never do. They think it’s a put down.

I don’t use the ISO dial so I use the touch screen every day to change the ISO.

Well you’re not in spot meter. You’re in whatever metering mode you chose in the settings. It works in LV or with an EVF. One of those things you read in the manual.

You seem to have failed to understand what I wrote.
