During a 2 day trek in Vietnam we went through a few villages. I encountered these children in one of the villages trying to keep warm and dry out of the rain. The families in these villages are very poor, basically surviving by growing rice. In a good year, they might be able to sell some of the rice and buy other life's necessities...in a bad year they barely have enough rice to survive the year.
Their most prized possession other then the meager house they build is their water buffalo. Only the more well off families have a buffalo to help plow the fields...others need to do this by hand. The buffalo is so important, my guide told me the families bring the buffalo indoors when it's cold out so it would not get sick.
You can see the clothes the children are wearing were donated by some organization that helps out these villages.
The girl is very nicely lit and has an evocative expression, and the edges of the umbrella form nice leading lines. Graphically, it works very well. I enjoy your sense of composition.
I do sort of wish I could see the face of the child under the umbrella, but that's the nature of documentary photography...
