p.1 #1 · Installing old plug-in into Photoshop CC 2022
Just upgraded to a Macbook Pro M1 which came with OS Monterey installed. Was previously running Mojave on an older laptop.
I upgraded CC Photoshop to 2022 on the new laptop but one of the legacy plug-ins won't run on it. There was a previous suggestion about using a terminal command to get the plug-in to run on Catalina. I tried it then got a prompt for password? ... but there wasn't any way to type in a password (plus I don't know what password it was looking for).
Has anyone managed to get an older plug-in to work with Monterey and Photoshop 2022?
(FYI, the plug in is PhotoKit 2 from PixelGenius, which stopped supporting it long ago. Here's a link to the Adobe page talking about getting plug-ins to work with Catalina: https://tinyurl.com/yy837mxt . . . Scroll down the page to "Plug-ins not found or cannot be verified"

I too use PK Sharpener. It's been part of my workflow for a decade. I'm on WIN 10, so I don't have specific info to help you. My workaround is simple. In addition to CC2022, I also have previous CC editions on my machine as well as CS5 and CS3. The earlier editions support features or plugins that were deleted from later CC iterations. I just open the version I need, perform the required operation and return to CC2022. Yes, it is cumbersome, but it does work. So far, I haven't had a problem with a file that wouldn't work in a previous version, or a file that wouldn't open in a later version after modification in an earlier version. I have backwards compatibility turned on.

I think the problem is that the older versions of PS won't run on Monterey. I don't think there is backwards compatability on the Mac (I could be wrong...just getting up to speed on Monterey).

Try this:
Go to Adobe's Creative Cloud > All Aps.
Besides the Photoshop icon, you will see the three-dot "More" icon.
Click on that icon and look for "Open (Intel);
Launch that version on an M1 Mac and you should then be able to see and use all of your old Plug-ins.
I also use the Pixel genius filters and they do work in Monterey 12.1 on my M1 Macs if I launch the Intel version of Ps.

Thanks for the advice.
Tried your suggestion but have more questions. Do you have to use "Open Intel" every time you want to use PixelGenius? If I quit PS and then reopen it, none of the PG plug-ins show up. (I oinitially purchased Photoshop CC via Amazon, not directly from Adobe if that makes any difference(.
When I tried to use PhotoKit 2 commands, I continually get the message "PhotoKit Color 2.plugin” can’t be opened because it was not downloaded from the App Store.
Think I'm getting close . . . but would be nice to get it to work like it did previously.

I normally work in the M1 (Silicone) version of Photoshop but I go to the Cloud and click on the link there to
Open the Intel version if I need to use older plug-ins.
Another problem which you may run into is the fact that Apple does not recognise the developer of those plug-ins.
You can solve that by un-quarantining them by using Terminal.
For unsigned plug-ins (like the invaluable set from Pixel Genius), the following instructions (which were posted elsewhere on the Internet by Andrew Rodney) do work to un-quarantine the plug-ins:

Those (now free) plugin's are unsupported and haven't been updated in a few years so you may not be able to get them to work as Adobe updates PS and the plug-in architecture.
You can try the following, no guarantees:
Use Terminal and copy/paste this:
sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine
Be sure to add a space after the e of ‘quarantine’
Then drag & drop the plug-in onto Terminal…the first plug-in requires you enter your password.
The other plug-ins don’t.
Repeat the copy paste and drag & drop for each of the 7 plug-ins-even the oddball plug-ins like Toolbox & Previewer .
You’ll have to quit and relaunch Photoshop… This seems to allow the older PhotoKit Plug-ins to run like they used to on Mac. Pretty sure there’s no issue on Windows.

I followed Andrew's instructions and the Pixel Genius plug-in do now work if I Open the "Intel version" of Ps (which I assume runs in Rosetta 2?) on my M1 Macs.
I notice that you posted this earlier:

The required Password is your regular User's password — the one which you use to open your computer (not the one which goes with your Apple ID)

Thanks.
Tried using the terminal command, which did show the plug-ins under the automate window. But when trying to get them to work after using "Open Intel", I get the message, “PhotoKit Color 2.plugin” can’t be opened because it was not downloaded from the App Store" . . . same message appears for any of the PG plug-ins.
I can click through about 10 of those messages until the regular PhotoKit window opens, but none of the commands (ie burn four corners) works when you have preview checked or unchecked. Same message appears again.

I am wondering if you actually have a subscription to the real Photoshop?
You buy those subscriptions through Adobe's creative Cloud and all updates and installations are then handled through the Cloud.
I think that the Apple Store sells something else —such as Photoshop Elements?

See if it works if you go to Adobe Creative Cloud and delete and then re-install Ps 2022 using the Intel option.
You may need to trash your existing Ps Preferences as well.
You should be seeing the Pixel Genius scripts in the File > Automate Menu.

I can uninstall PS 2022 but the only option I see is to reinstall it, with the message that says you can use the Intel version from the "more" menu. Doesn't look like yio can simply download and install an Intel version.
After uninstalling PS 2022 and reinstalling it (deleting all preferences), I went back and performed the terminal comman to install the PG plug-ins. While they show up under Automate in the Intel version, they still won't work in that version (same message: "xxx can’t be opened because it was not downloaded from the App Store."
I sent an email to the PG folks but haven't heard anything back. Haven't found a program as good as PG when editing . . . suggested they update PG and that they would probably find lots of customers for it.

Found the answer why I kept getting a message about the app not being able to be opened because it wasn't from the app store. Solution here: https://tinyurl.com/y53lbjqh
Still would be nice to use PG in PS2022 rather than having to launch the Intel version from Creative Cloud. At least it seems to be working now. Thanks again for all the help.
