If you're on Facebook, you can join this printing group where using 3rd party inks has been discussed for years. Precision Color Inks is considered a good ink if you're not selling prints. I use their dye based ink for a Canon Pro 100.

Precision Colors offers OEM ink for the Pro 1000 which I believe works out to $35/cartridge vs. a new one at around $55. Consequently, you can save $ and not be forced to use 3rd party ink.
To answer your direct question I've never used/bought "compatibles" before. For the last more than 10 years i get expired or surplus inks on eBay. Have you checked there?
I buy inks that are normally $175(per ink) for as low as $35 but usually closer to $75.
Maybe nobody sells inks for the 1000 but at the savings I've experienced it's not worth it to go with compatible inks.
