It's been awhile since I've posted any photos here in the various FM communities.....this thread seems like a good place to get back in the swing of things.
Loving this 'Swiss Army knife' zoom lens....especially the sharpness.
Seems there's a lot of debate and arguments between avid F-mount and Z-mount users....honestly, I'm enjoying both and even though my kit's heavy on F-mount...I've strategically filled missing gaps with Z-mount glass....like this general purpose zoom.

Just picked up this lens last week as an everyday lens for my Z9. I was asked to shoot a small wedding last night with a venue that worked for this focal range. Besides the sharpness I was impressed by the versatility of the lens. From the macro like focus on pre-wedding detail stuff to flash and no flash photos it did not disappoint.
I still have the f mount kit lens and although it’s a decent lens I would not have considered it for single lens duty like the z version in this scenario.

Great shot!!!
If you have the 24-70/4 I think it's a no brainer if you can swing it. Just rub her feet and tell her how much you love her as you mention you bought it

The 24-120 is worth being killed by a wife to own!
I did some comparisons the other day between the 24-120 and the 50 f1.8s. Center sharpness is ridiculously close.
I've owned the 24-70 f4, the 24-70 f2.8 and now the 24-120. Center sharpness is at least as good as the 24-70 f2.8. It's only in the FX corners where the 24-70 does a better job.

Yes. I'd post the images but I let my ability to do so here lapse. I was very surprised and as I said it was only the corners that really showed much difference.

If you're into landscapes and you already own the f2.8S, you already own the best.....from my eyes it's noticeable without significant pixel peeping.....I do think the 24-120 is very good though.
I had the same itch as you over the last few months and I even had a great price on a used copy of the 24-120 in town for a week but managed to hold off the scratching and now the itch is gone. I can see the appeal of the 24-120 as a good all-rounder and I love the idea of getting past 100mm when I combine the standard zoom with the 100-400mm, but that feels more like an expensive OCD decision that would also prevent me from using the better lens overall (2.8S) more often.

Photographylife agrees with what you experienced: corner sharpness on wide end is what separates the 24-120 from the 24-70 2.8. Central and mid-frame there’s little difference, and the zoom even pulls ahead on the tele end. https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-z-24-120mm-f-4-s/3
I’ve found the 24-120 to be a remarkable lens. One of my favorite features of the 24-120 is the 0.39x max magnification.
In F mount the 24-120 was one of my favorites for landscape because of the range, but even good copies were never competitive with the better lenses (still, I made good prints from it). In Z system I’ve used the 24-70/4 but 3 copies all were decentered, plus color consistency across the frame was not great in something like snowy scenes. Went to the Z 24-70/2.8 and was delighted by the IQ but really missed the longer range. Now have been shooting the Z 24-120 since release in 2021 and it’s just ideal for my landscape needs, and a perfect mate for the 100-400mm. My copy is gorgeous throughout the zoom range.

Dang Ross, I don't know how many days a year look exactly like that in Zion but it looks identical to a day I shot there (3-12-2021). I just did a 48 X 72 metal print for my Son's Christmas present. Shot on my Sony 24-105 G and it also held up to the size. I understand that the Nikon 24-120 S is even a bit better super zoom, so I am not surprised by your results. I love that location.

Steve, that's awesome you also experienced the fresh snowfall at Zion - definitely magical! And what a nice big print size you made.
