i have seen/held a 70-200/2.8 E with the wave on it. it had a texture to it. looked nifty too but it's not something i would do to my hardware, its definitely no slicker than the original finish of the lens. depending on your choice a bit less so.

I’ve never seen the point of these. They tend to make the object more slippery too.
Can't say my lenses will ever need a wetsuit like the above but I do put on a rubberized material called "Griptac" in specific areas that I tend to want have a more secure hold of. I have been doing this for years and it really helps, especially in cold weather....

I'm wondering, if it's normal that lens moves a bit in the mount.
I can feel the clank every time I extend or retract the zoom on 100-400s in my z7II, basically changing direction of twist.
I used to think, this happens only with Fuji, but I was wrong.

Moves the same amount my Sony GM version did. Don’t sweat it.

Mine moves in the mount, but not from zooming action. The amount is barely perceptible, especially compared to my Fuji lenses.

Found an injured GBH pacing in the outfield of the local baseball field, clearly distressed. On closer inspection, it had a broken wing and had no idea where it was or how to get out. Gently led it out through the dugout and helped it across a street where it hopped into the woods. Probably already some bobcat's dinner, but always appreciate when I'm able to get close to one.

Where can I get this griptac ? Can you easily remove it without leaving residue?
Thank you

No residue but sticks very well, love it for photo applications.
At first I found it through Cameraleather.com when I used it to recover my F3, FM3A, M6, etc.
But then I went looking for it elsewhere for general use and now buy it here: https://www.guntape.com
When handling lenses with wet or cold hands, it is indispensable for finding a grippy but non-rotating surface.
I especially like it near the lens mount, always a very secure lens swap.

I have had my 100-400 for about two weeks. I took it on a trip to Raleigh, NC last week and it worked good at times but others it made me angry. I guess it could be a bit of a love/hate relationship with this lens. I knew there would be a learning curve with the zoom lens as I have only used a 70-200 and a 24-70 in recent months.
One problem I had was hitting the Auto and Manual focus switch and turning off the AF. In fact, I had a chance for a great shot of a bald eagle roosting in a tree. The AF was off and I only had a moment and the switch had been switched to manual. Now that switch has a piece of gaffers tape over it.
Yesterday, I shot a double header with it and man did the lens perform well. The only time that I had problems were when the sun was going down and shadows were on the field. The flexibility and reach of the lens was great. Plus I could increase my reach thru cropping the 45mp or going to DX mode.
