Near twilight one day in the Serengeti we came upon this young male lion sitting high on a rock surveying his pride below, and the herds further out. He eventually went down, gathered the pride and hunted down a Wildebeest. We were fortunate enough to follow and record the entire hunt and kill.

This is a dream shot! You should be proud
Thanks, it was a wonderful evening in the bush. I got many nice images of many animals that day. Best thing is where we were on the border of Tanzania and Kenya there were no other people. Felt like the old days in the bush.

Super photo. To my eye there seems to be a touch of color on the lion.

Thanks Morris. You are correct, there is a very slight toning I used in this B&W. I made a sperate layer, converted it to B&W and then blended with the original colored layer to get the toning I liked.

I hope you didn't get too close! Very cool indeed...B&W helps that sky pop..

Simon,
I try to get as close as possible without disrupting the animals. In this case it was obvious that the pride was about to hunt, so I kept a respectable distance.
I don't often do B&W but sometimes and image inspires me to try it.
I have never taken photos of 'dangerous' animals (lions, grizzlies etc). How do you stay safe? Are you in a vehicle? Make sure you can outrun the slowest person in your group?
