I took some short trips locally this month to photograph birds with fall color background. It was a pleasure to meet with Joshua (AGeoJO) in person at Conowingo.
C&C are always welcome and appreciated. For my American FM friends, have a great Thanksgiving!
Douglas - Wow, what a beautiful set of images! I can't find the words to describe how incredible the backgrounds are. I guess I just did. Incredible backgrounds. Great Job.
You have multiple outstanding images in this thread Douglas. There are so many that I lost track of them yet the color and lighting is what I remember most
Stunning work!! The Fall colors reflecting on the water makes killer images and the eagles hooked talons is always epic. The heron images were my favorite, especially the flying image, even with you fast shutter, in looked like a slight blur of the background that pushed it up a notch.
Image 6 stopped me in my tracks. Far and away the best GBH image I've seen in a long time, and that includes my own shots, and I photograph hundreds of herons a year.
Well done. All of the images in this post deserve all the praise you are receiving.

Thank, you, Rand! With the flying heron, I think I just shot some kingfishers at high shutter speed and forgot to change it when the heron was flying by. Glad it worked out fine.Douglas

Thank you, Chris! The heron in #6 was really close, it basically filled the frame. I was looking at the fungi on a tree stump and didn't even realize the heron was standing on the top of the stump. There is a big red maple tree about 60'-70' on the other side of the pond behind the heron. I lucked out with the background and morning light. I shot the heron for about 5 minutes before I moved on, I had the wife and the dog with me so couldn't observe it for too long.
Much appreciae your kind words.
Douglas
Here is another shot of the heron from a slightly different angle.
Wow. I don't know what else to say. I'm not easily impressed, but wow! Love that backlit GBH, the action of the eagles, the kingfishers, and fall colors galore. Did I say wow? Awesome stuff.
Thank you Pius!

Superb set of images my friend !
Those are fabulous, great job. How do you keep the eye in focus with the wings in the way? a1 smart enough to find the eye for you or are you able to keep it on that part of the body as close as you seem to be?
