First, I admire the hell out of wedding photogs. I did it once about 10 years ago for a relative and afterwards swore I'd never put myself through such a stressful situation (especially using a now ancient Nikon D200 with practically zero AF and antique cards that were prone to failure).
Last weekend I attended a wedding as guest, there were 3 professional photogs, so I dragged my Leica Q2 around just for fun. I chatted up the photogs, really great guys with photo chops, and I took care to steer clear of them, not wanting to poach their shots.
Here are a few. I processed b/w to hide the less than capable low light function of my cam.

I'm not a wedding photographer but would like to say you caught some lovely emotions. Your shooting surely added to the day. Well done.
thanks very much! The family got my images the next day so they were happy because they'll probably have to wait some time for the professional photos.

This is the part that feels a little weird.
Not sure if it is ego or really a good gesture.
Just feels like competition.
Me.. myself... I have 24-48 hour turn around for sneak peeks.
That's my business model. Not everybody does this.

some decent grabs.
Dad of the bride is my best friend - known him since college and the bride is practically my daughter. Had you been the wedding photog and expressed that opinion after I made a point of introducing myself and making clear I’d not be in your way or poach your shots I’d laugh in your face.

I had an aunt of the bride poaching group shots over my shoulder once and she posted them on Facebook the next day. Classy
Disclaimer: I realize this is not what the OP did, I'm just sharing an experience.
It's so rare anyone brings a real camera anymore — I welcome it.
We had a fun one this Spring where 4 of the groom's friends brought film cameras. An Olympus Stylus, Yashica rangefinder, Leica M6, and a Mamiya RB67 (oh, the weight). At some point during the dance party, I set some lights up outside and did some fun rockstar photos of the camera club.
A couple of our photographers shot one this Summer where a relative brought his own Elinchrom lights and did a photo booth. Sure, why not.

correct, that's NOT what I did. And these days there's not much difference between me carrying a diminutive fixed lens Leica Q2 versus almost every person there who's carrying a smart phone with camera. If that really threatens a pro wedding photog who has far better/bigger equipment and is being paid anyway, then perhaps that person should find another line of business.
does not bother me.... shooting asian weddings....
plenty of good gear walking around.
Fun to hear thoughts....
The best is when people think my OCF are cameras.
But i can see where the thoughts come from.
for me ... it is the supper fast turn around and boasting about it.
I did notice a thread on here that talked about turn around times. I believe some were weeks. Getting a couple of pics to the family next day really doesn't seem to be boasting and I don't think the OP is bashing pros in any way.

Back a few years ago, I would stay up half the night making a small album to give to the B&G the next day at brunch. It REALLY blew everyone away!
I would just condition myself to not sleep, wake up on Saturday morning and go until Sunday night.
As for people taking pictures, I always welcomed it as long as they were not getting in the way or slowing things down.
The OP Brick, got exactly what he should have gotten, images from a different vantage point that other tog's could not. Great job!
those are nice candid shots.
These days, it's normal to see guests carry cameras, esp. smart phone to snap the picture because smart phone is convenient and almost everyone has it! I don't mind guests to take picture besides me as long as they don't stand in my way . This happened many times, esp. in the church when the father walks the bride, many guests step out of the aisle and block my view. Lesson learned, I have to do it quick and change the angle a bit.
Knowing that you were using a 28mm lens makes me question how "out of the way" you were. The hora and toasts come to mind. Some nice candids though... just be mindful of the weird effects the shutter drag has.
