Still too rich for my blood but a good deal when it comes to CFE-A.
Is it because you are comparing the price per GB to other cards, like CFE-B? If so, I don't think they will come down much more in upcoming 6 months or so. Unless there is more competition.
Or is it because you feel like you don't need them?

Some of it has to do with $/GB compared to CFe-B which are twice as fast. I really don't think I should have to pay anymore than CFe-B. The other part is that I really don't need them as I've only hit my buffer a handful of times and every time I just let off for a second or two and could continue to shoot some short bursts and not really miss any action. The other 99% of the time I never hit the buffer even with my type of BIF shooting.

Today only, ProGrade is running a sale on all of their memory cards. If you buy a 2-pack of 160GB cards, it will end up being a ~$250 per card: https://bit.ly/3zpqTC3 use coupon code: SINGLESDAY
If you own a Discover or Chase Freedom card you will get additional 5% back if paying via PayPal (make sure to register for this promotion first).
I don’t think there will be a better offer for Black Friday or Cyber Monday. If there is, you can always request a price match as today’s purchase will be within 30 days Also, there is no guarantee that those 2-packs will be in stock at that time.

I totally understand.
I wish that Prograde would clarify why CFE-A cards cost more than CFE-B cards. Is it some sort of licensing fee that adds to the cost? And why they cannot go over 160GB?

Keep in mind that type A is quite smaller than the B. Nearly half in one dimension, and 2/3 in another.

So I got my ProGrade 160GB CFExpress Type-A card in the mail today.
Did a preliminary buffer clearing test vs. the Sony CFE-A 160 GB cards.
My camera was set to Raw lossy compressed. Manual mode. 30fps. Aperture: 1.2, Shutter Speed 1/1000, ISO 12,800. Lens: Sony 50mm f1.2 GM.
I ran each card three times. Held the shutter down until the buffer filled. Then let go of the shutter and timed until the buffer cleared.
Sony CFE-A card 160GB
1. 155 frames - 10.09 seconds to clear
2. 152 frames - 9.74 seconds to clear
3. 153 frames - 9.87 seconds to clear
Avg. 9.68 seconds to clear 150 shots
ProGrade CFE-A card 160GB
1. 154 frames - 9.57 seconds to clear
2. 152 frames - 9.77 seconds to clear
3. 156 frames - 9.87 seconds to clear
Avg. 9.48 seconds to clear 150 shots
Now this was totally unscientific. I relied on my reflexes to start and stop the timer. So the times aren’t 100% accurate. But I think I can conclude the Prograde cards are every bit as fast as the Sony cards.

Adorama denied the price match. Pretty disappointed given that I've spent thousands there.
I know this is a little off topic, but I don’t know what’s going on with them. Really unhelpful the last two months and just this week couldn’t get an order through online so I called and the guy’s tone was so annoyed and he was rushing me so much it was like he was begging me to go spend the money somewhere else. So I did.
On topic, I ordered some cards directly from ProGrade and they arrive tomorrow!

Adorama is going downhill recently, I went to their store with an item I had an issue with for repair (I have their VIP 360) they told me call the number. I called the number they said they'd call me back within 48 hours, a week later they asked for 48 more hours etc this went on for almost 2 months, finally they said I needed to contact this 3rd party company that would take care of it, when I called them they had me send in all the info and the very next day I received an email saying my repair claim was denied because I was over 1 year since purchase ...... by 3 days!!! Had I not waited a couple of months for Adorama it would have been fine. I miss having Helen lol. Back on topic

This may sound like a stupid question, but if you are using an A1 but rarely do bursts of more than 1-1.5 seconds and pretty much never do video, is it worth using those over UHS-II SD?

Probably not. Depends on your needs. About the only benefit in your case would be faster download to the computer. To some that might be worth it, like a pro on a deadline.
I did finally get a card. Buffer sure clears faster. Offloading images to the computer is faster. Was it worth it? Not sure for my uses.

I figured since I have yet to fill the buffer on it I wouldn't need to go to these. The faster transfer to the computer is definitely appealing but I can wait until prices drop some more.

Nice .. just ordered 2 for my a1. Was reluctant to buy the overpriced Sony Toughs, and I'm glad I waited.
Hope these Progrades are way faster in real life to shoot with, than the 2 SD cards I am currently using.
