p.7 #1 · "Nikon Z9 vs Sony A1 – The 10 main differences"

Ok let's see...was it you that wrote this? "The point is to be accepting of someone else's _opinion_ without needlessly berating them to change their mind. After adding "to me" , "for my use" , "my preference" , if you're told you're a dummy for thinking so - the thread is obviously going to go South"
Hmnn... Well obviously you dont like or respect others opinions and are quick to attack them here. I will say I am an Engineer of 30 plus years and know far more than YOU about materials and structural integrity. And don't think manufacturers get it right because they have "engineers" on hand. I've met many great but equally poor engineers in my time. But your a keyboard warrior looking to attack anyone who disagrees with your opinions aren't you? I could care less what your brilliant pea sized mind thinks about camera size vs. materials or what not. Your the one who is starting an argument here so I guess I'll bash you as well (and most here know I do not ever treat anyone badly on this forum unless they behave like children having a tantrum... For you it's about spot on) . My guess is your a Nikon fanboy who is trolling Sony forums to protect his product choice and investment. Well too darn bad if you don't agree with my statements, guess what? I dont care! NO ONE CARES! THEY ARE MY OPINIONS AND I CAN POST THEM AS I LIKE. if you dont agree fine but don't come here insulting others. Did someone miss his bedtime nap today? 😂

Terrible grammar, yells in CAPS, thinks they are better than everyone else because of REASONS. There's a reason you're getting called out, friendo. My hide list is getting full.

I think he is referencing battery life. Tripods for stability is a given in star trail photography.

Correct...but anyone that is worried about battery life during astro (or any long-duration photography) already has a USB battery bank, so grip or no grip isn't even on the radar.

If you're using a star tracker, you want to be lightweight as possible too, so the grip is just needless weight.

For serious people yes I suppose so. I have only done it casually so use my grip when I am going to do things that require long battery life.

That's the beauty of a removable grip. You can use it when needed...then take it off when not required thus saving bulk and weight.

I am a bit disappointed by the way things turned in this thread.

I really don't see the productivity of arguing about preferences. I enjoy learning why people choose one thing over another. But preferences are like faith. There is no way logic plays much of a persuasive role in such discussions.

On the other hand, specifications, and performance capabilities are more objective. A lot can be learned in discussions about them.

How one values these specifications and capabilities is back to personal preference. It is important to try and keep that separate. It is often not easy in the grey areas.

Disagreement is a very productive endeavor in many cases. Discussions among sycophants is both boring and unproductive. However, it is clear that respect and politeness is required for any type of discussion to be fruitful.

The simple fact remains that all of us here on the FM community are here because we are interested in photography, sharing that interest and our images. By far we all share more in common with each other than differences. I wish we could just treat each other that way. This, no matter which forum or thread we choose to participate in.

For you and me, true. Not for all. Like beauty in all things it is subjective and a preference. There is no superiority in one person's beauty over another's.

These types of threads always turn into this. I'm not even sure why this surprises you since you've seen this happen MANY times in the Nikon forum.

I try to talk rationally from my own perspective with these things. I don't hate either Sony or Nikon. I actually like both cameras. The Z9 just hits the right price point with the right form factor for me to want the camera. All of my cameras have a vertical grip on them, been that way since my D7100 six years ago and it's just been how I shoot. I'm not going to waste time making a thread and getting into a shouting match about it. When I didn't have a grip for my Z6II I hated shooting it vertically with the 200-500. I hated shooting it period with the 50 1.2 because it's a balancing issue (still shot with it though). Bought a grip when I got my RIV and it honestly just fits my hands better with it. Some like heft, others don't. I shoot events and have had some all day shoots, none of the extra weight was that much of an issue for me. Shot with my D4 all weekend for hours, no complaints. I like photographic tanks. I don't mind if others don't, but this is where the whole thing becomes personal.

Well said. I totally agree.

Unfortunately, the world seems to going in the opposite direction at the moment. Everything is getting more and more “Us” against “Them”. Much more tribal these days.

I’m hoping the pendulum swings back the other way. But I’m not optimistic.

The way social media has conditioned people to prize likes, more than seeing the other side. And the way the algorithms work so you can spend your whole life in your bubble. Never having to hear a differing opinion. Making these sorts of threads, started usually with the best intentions, go round and round in circles more often.

I realize forums have always been like this to an extent. But it seems to be getting worse. That’s why I rarely go to DPReview any more. Guys over there seem to take pleasure in arguing more than the thing they’re actually arguing about.

Some of us are typing from a cell phone so grammar is what it is. And Scott your no angel yourself. I've seen many of your posts and your bashing of others on here. I'm also not going to tolerate it from you. Who thinks they are better than everyone else?? I never implied or siad this..you did ! Those who disagree with others opinions are within their right to do so, until they insult someone else. Then they deserve the same medicine! And perfect grammar means nothing. I know many so called smart people with perfect grammar who can barely get anything accomplished in life.

Never said there was any superiority...maybe you are reading too much into things. I'm just pointing out that having the ability to add or remove a grip gives you flexibility.

Same thing can be said about 30fps...not everyone needs it nor bird eye focus tracking...yet we seem to think that is OK to discuss and we even claim superiority of one camera over another based on these features.

It's always the barely-here posters that accuse me like this. Give me a break.

I don't excuse bias-over-fact posting, and that rubs some people the wrong way, I guess

There are people that do photography, and people that talk photography. I refuse getting lectured by the armchair photographers.

I think you talk too much personaly. Do you have the skill to backup the big talk? Personally tired of forum weasels like yourself running their mouths . You insulted me then try to walk away . How about move on if you don't agree with my posts? You don't intimidate me in anyway, if your trying to impress anyone here I think you failed.

How about move on if you don't agree with my posts? - Sounds good, I think I will.

You insulted me then try to walk away. - Wait, so do you want me to stay, or move along?

I don't think you thought this through.

There's no bigger indicator of over-inflated self importance than to assume someone is trying to intimidate you on the internet. Everyone is just shaking their heads over your rambling. Literally no one cares.

Deep breath. Scott and I don't always agree but he contributes substantively to the forum, adds insights, has a good sense of humour and, as you can tell by his links in his profile, gets out and takes actual photos.
