p.1 #2 · Which Voigtlander lens has the best rendering?
Define 'Best rendering' - My opinion is meaningless to you unless we agree on what Best Rendering means (and we probably don't)
The recent APO's are by far the most transparent, but in terms of rendering I always liked the 58/1.4 SLII the best of all the Voigtlander lenses I've seen over the years. It's a nice balance of character and technical performance.

Of the one's I have, I'd probably say the CV 50/2 APO. But when you say rendering, I think you probably mean the something more like the 50/1.2 or 40/1.2. Ones I've never tried though.
p.1 #5 · Which Voigtlander lens has the best rendering?
That's a tough one because the skopar, ultron, nokton and heliars all render differently. I've had at least one of each. I for one like the ultron line of lenses from my experience for their more modern rendering. Second would be the skopars. That's just me though, completely subjective. I also like the 40mm 1.4 classic for it's wacky OOF rendering.
Still, I'd vote for the ultrons. Or- you know- just collect them all.

The APOs have the clinically best optics if that is what you are after.
For me I look for personality in my CV lenses. My favorite in a native e-mount is the by far the CV 40 f/1.2. It has multiple personalities ranging from brilliantly sharp, to soft and dreamy.
If that is of interest to you then I don't think you can go wrong starting your CV collection with that lens.

I love the rendering of the 75mm 1.5.
Me too, this may be my next CV. But it has to be adapted and I don't think there is any way to get electronic communications. Otherwise it would already be on my shelf. I love its rendering and FL.

Personally I love the now rather neglected 125 2.5 APO Lanthar ... but as many have pointed out it all depends on what you mean by a definition and your own personal taste.

Very good point. I have read countless reviews over the years and the word rendering is a mess. In fact the classification of lens characteristics is crazy. People throw around adjectives but really have a unique personal opinion of what they mean...
Here are two common definitions used online:
- background, out of focus area, not bokeh
- the way the lens draws the entire scene
What best means is another topic in itself - that is definitely a personal thing....
Also lenses render differently depending on the light and the conditions....
I think the only real advice is too look at sample pictures and buy & try!

I found a good deal on a CV 75 f/1.5 today. I broke down and bought it, and a metabones M to E adapter to go with it. It should be here Friday. But this is my 50th High School reunion weekend so won't get a chance to play with it until Sunday.
I am OK with not having EXIF data in my files. But I really want all my focusing aids, and IBIS working. I have to figure out how to make this happen without any electronics from the lens like I get with my other CV native e-mounts lenses.
I am shooting with my a1.
IBIS seems to be no problem I just set that in Shooting -> ImageStabilization -> FocalLength to 75mm.
This doesn't seem to change the way any of my lenses with electronic communications works. All
good.
Focus Peaking also works just fine in the same way it always has in my setup. All good.
Zoom so far is a challenge. With my other lenses I have it set up so that when I start to move the focus ring the view zooms in automatically. It stays for 5 seconds, or until I touch another control. Perfect.
However, with an adapted lens this doesn't work. On my a7RIII I just set my Control Wheel Center Button to zoom in when I click it. I would be fine with that on the a1 too. However, on the a1 I can't get this to work. I have to set another button to activate Focus Magnifier first. Then the Control Wheel Center Button works as before. This requires two button clicks, and costs me a programable button on the camera. Too awkward and inefficient. No Bueno!
Does anyone know how to get the Control Wheel Center Button to act as a Zoom Button like it did on the a7RIII? Surprisingly it doesn't seem to be able to be programed at all in Custom Key Settings.
Thanks!
By the Way for anyone interested, Camera Quest has a very nice used CV 75 f/1.5, and and CV adapter on sale for good prices. I went with a new one and a Metabones adapter I found a deal on out of State that cost me only $49.00 more after taxes and shipping.

I see it there in "Rear2" customization menu and "Focus Magnifier" can be assigned to it ...
Edit: Ahh, I think I see what you mean. Well, I always used one button as "Focus Magnifier" and set the intial zoom level to pre-zoomed already so it's 1 button press for x4.2 and another one for even more magnification.
Not sure which button assignment you used before...
