I‘m definitely tempted. The Sigma 24-70 is a superb lens, however, I really don‘t like the direction of rotation of sigma lenses. Hope that the Samyang follows the pattern of Sony originals.
- F2.8 pro-grade lens throughout the range
- Par-Focal lens, focusing at any zoom range in video recording
- High-speed focusing system Linear Step motor
- 17 Elements in 14 groups
- 2 special ASP lens elements, 1 HB, 3 HR, 3 ED
- UMC special coating
- minimum focus at 35cm
- Beautiful round bokeh with up to 9 aperture blades
- 82mm front lens
- Weather Sealing, water and dust resistant
- There is a Custom Switch button, you can choose the settings to use the ring.
Interesting that this would share the 82mm front filter size with some other high quality lenses out there. From this spec it would seem like the emphasis is going to be on a grade A optic and not so much on price, like Samyang usually focuses on. I might be mistaken there of course but it does make for an interesting discussion.
It would in terms of construction and design language etc it does seem to put it quite close to the Sigma 24-70. Quite an ambitious lens from Samyang if you ask me!
The Sigma 24-70/2.8 is very, very good and is also priced well. The Samyang must come in at a fairly significant price difference to compete. The optics must also be first class. Sigma really did a wonderful job with their 24-70. The rendering is superb and sharpness is excellent.
And they have to successfully manufacture it so that it's centered at all FLs. That appears to be a challenge the more complex a lens design is. This one looks fairly complex.

„ The Samyang AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE autozoom lens is designed as a par-focal lens that can maintain focus even when zooming in or out. The focus position of the lens does not change with the zoom like a normal lens.“

Sigma have done a lot right recently producing some lovely lenses. However size and weight has been the downside because of the integrated adapter. I always loved my Sigma lenses.
I've got 4 Samyang lenses to date and have been delighted with them. Much smaller and lighter than the competition (plastics vs metal in some cases - but that works for me as those are two features I require as I trek/camp a lot : 18 is 145g / 45 is 162g / 24 is 230g & 85 is 568g). Optics have been *excellent*, esp. the 24 and 85. The 45 and 18 no slouches for their size / weight compromises.
I doubt I'd buy this zoom but Samyang have been hitting it out of the park over the past year or so with their small AF lenses. A far far cry from their earlier hit or miss MF lenses. Therefore I don't doubt the optics will be up to scratch (and parfocal !), the size smaller than the competition (as we can see not as long or wide as the GM and it will be plastic so lighter too) and price-wise again I don't doubt this lens will be highly competitive.
I'll wait to see the reviews from Christopher Frost and Dustin Abbott on YT.

Just to clarify about what you said about the built in adapter on the Sigmas - their new “dg dn” lenses are specifically built for Sony so there are no adapters.

does anyone care that it's parfocal? it doesnt electronically zoom
Seems like a bit of a moot point to me honestly. You're never going to keep steady with an external zoom I don't think. As you extend you'll always wobble a bit and potentially lose focus because your subject will go out of frame. It seems like a bit of a weird 'feature' to me.
