Thanks, Dan. It is a child of about 3. The parents work in road construction, and these children are sometimes left to their own devices.
And that I am sorry for! Making a life and supporting a child sometimes conflict. A hard decision has to be made by the parents. But the young man will hopefully devise his own skills to survive his pathway to adulthood. He'll make it! It is in his eyes!!! Determination with a side of sadness.

Charley, this is a very expressive and telling shot of this young boy. I'd almost rather see a bit of the background so it didn't look so studio and give a hint of location. It's too bad there is so much of this type of poverty in the world, I do hope it works out for him and the family.
There is a strange halo around the edges of his face where the background starts.
Not sure of the B&W treatment since there isn't any!

John, thanks for the comments. The thing is, the narrow depth of field is what gives the image a lot of its character and therefore the background gets significantly blurred. You have great eyes regarding that halo. I wonder if it has to do with the select subject feature on PS. It sometimes oversteps the boundaries of a figure.
