When I was photographing this Long-eared owl a pretty good snow squall came through. OM-1 kept focusing on the snow so I had to manual focus to get anything close to a good shot. I also had an A1/600 on a tripod at the same time and it had no issues which I was a little surprised about.
I faced the same issue too. Unfortunately, I was doing BIF, and it was almost impossible to get a sharp shot.

My Nikon Z9's AF basically gives up when there's that much snow falling in front of the subject. It's a pretty challenging situation for any camera, especially when the light (and contrast) is flat.

I agree, that’s why I was surprised my A1 didn’t have any issues. I’ve been in similar situations where I had “snow AF”.
Going through some of my short-eared owl shots and found a few more decent ones. I made a 100% rookie mistake with the shutter speed. I had been using my A1 and wanted to take some shots with the OM-1 when all of a sudden the owl popped up, I didn't even have time to think about the shutter speed, I just fired away.
Last shot was after it caught dinner
These are all heavy crops. Editing done in LR with LR NR applied.
Two male American Robins taken this morning from my deck, waaaaaaaaay out, with 2X extender and 1.25 built-in TC engaged (2000mm) and cropped a little.
