if sony could some how make a 24-150 2.8, could take a converter, thats only slightly heavier, and less than 3k, id buy it in a heartbeat.
I am still waiting for someone, anyone, to make a 75-150 or 50-150 or 50-135 or 70-200 f4 that is collapsible with great IQ at under 550g. AF or MF is fine by me.

Wow, procam really hooked it up. I will have my lens tomorrow and they have been incredibly responsive (I had a question on the shipping). Thanks for sharing.
I have purchased two lenses from Procam in the last several months (35-150mm is one of them). In both cases, I happened to call them around 3:30 EST (same time-zone as their stores); and, in both cases, they shipped the lenses out the same day. Actually, I called them to confirm stock and then completed the transaction online. They flexibly ship from any one of their three stores. I'm impressed.

Ok I just got mine but haven't really been able to take it for a proper spin. My first impressions are that the zoom ring felt funky to me (kind of tight like the videos said) but I am pleased overall. I think realistic expectations were set with regards to what it does well and does not do well. That being said I don't think I'll get rid of even one prime since I do a lot of shooting in low light but I think it will have it's place.

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered late yesterday and today I received shipping info. I expect it to be delivered early next week but I will not get to use it until early December 🙁

Here's another business I've bought from and their web catalog shows the 35-150 in stock.. Though a phone call ahead would be wise..

Canon came pretty close with their RF 70-200 f/4 at 695 grams and Tamron has their 70-180 at f/2.8 ringing in at 800 grams...so maybe Tamron could get there with an f/4 version of that lens. That would be a fantastic landscape lens to just throw in the bag and not worry about. I still keep a beat up copy of the Nikon E 75-150 that does that job acceptably, but only acceptably. I'd love a modern take.

Yeah, the Contax N 70-200 is 625g and very small for packing. The Minolta MD 75-150/4 is only 438g. I think it's very doable with today's tech to surpass the optical quality of those two while keeping the size the same or smaller and implementing AF + weather sealing.
It seems a Sony 70-200/4 v2 is due at some point, Tamron has a history of 70-200/4's and Sigma could tackle it with an i-series zoom (and seems just what the i series is for). Fingers crossed!

This looks like a really nice lens.
Must be a challenge for some event photographers to weigh the 35-150mm against other options. For example, if someone enjoyed a 135mm 1.8 and 35mm 1.4, could they part ways with 1 to 1.33 stops. It's just over a stop, although those two and whatever fits in messenger bag slot #3 could offer spares in case of a "flat tire".
Some of the image samples look wonderful.
The lens is expensive but not unreasonable. It will interesting whether used prices drop over time or hold and rise like the Sigma 105mm

Forgive me if anyone else has discussed this, but the Tamron Lens utility and the ability to program a manual focus point and then get back to the point after changing focus, turning the camera off, is amazing and something I've been looking for for YEARS. I bought a CINE lens just to be able to get to manual focus infinity quickly, and now this Tamron 35-150 does it with the push of a button. Does anyone know if this is possible with any other lenses compatible with Sony E mount?

I believe the new Tamron 28-75 G2 also has this feature. The recent Samyang 24 f/1.8 incorporated something similar called their astro-focus mode.
Edited to update that Frogfish confirmed the Samyang 24 f/1.8 operates similarly.

That sounds great as an idea, but most probably it won't really work dependably.
As an avid user of manual lenses, I know from experience that the point at which things "at infinity" (like photographers call it physically incorrectly 😉 ) are optimally in focus varies with the focal length chosen on the zoom lens. So, if you program such a focal point into the Tamron and then recall it with the button, but don't use the same focal length, it's most probably not optimally sharp.
So the feature is of at least very limited usefulness.

It's designed for Astro whereby infinity is set automatically making it easy to find at night. However I believe it's possible to set it for other distances. I haven't actually tried to do that though.

I've been testing it while changing focal lengths and its putting distant lights perfectly in focus, very accurate. I set it to first sign of infinity from left to right, and its really nailing it , so far anyway. I'll try again tomorrow.

This is actually what has me most excited for this lens. Amazing feature for run-and-gun weather photography.

Have you tried the Vello cable? Can't readily find mine, but I would expect it to work on the A1?

Home testing and it's easy (switch to MF and return to AF once programmed) to adjust focus to min. focus distance and then program the Custom Button 1 to memorise it (hold for 3 secs) so clearly this could be done for any distance. Custom 2 seems to memorise not just the distance but the fstop too (though I wasn't really testing this out - just found that on C2 the aperture couldn't be changed).
A quick check on the Samyang official page and I found :
The AF 24mm F1.8 FE lens features a new function titled “Astro-Focus Mode” with an “LED index” for astrophotography. The “Astro-Focus Mode” can be operated through the newly-designed Focus Hold button. Once the user enters the Astro-Focus Mode, the LED index will blink once, and the focus will automatically move to the infinity position.
*Users can save their own focus position with the focus hold button.
