A small side note: never before has a lens caused so much change in my lens cabinet Since the Tamron wads delivered to me, I have already sold three lenses: Tamorn 70-180 2.8; Sigma 24-70mm 2.8; Samyang 75 1.8. What is still to be sold now, if a buyer can be found, is the Sony Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.4.
One new purchase is still planned to round off the bottom: Tamron 17-28 f2.8. I think this is the perfect match for me in terms of size / weight. I am not an ultra wide angle photographer. So I will rarely use it. And that's why it should have a size and weight so that I won't regret it after a short time if I drag it around with me without using it (a lot).

Yeah it's tough! I really like the 70-180.

One thought is that even with the 35-150, I would still keep a small prime in my bag for most occasions. I just like being able to switch to something small and lightweight, whether that's a 35GM or 55/1.8 or CV40 or something else (I have the latter two). So with that in mind, I'm leaning towards just adding the 35GM at this point.

I agree with Jan here. The great thing about Tamron 35-150/F2-2.8 is that you can just take it alone, no other lens needed for many applications. No backpack with lenses, no nothing, just the body and the Tamron on it. This is very, very convenient.

Obviously it all depends on how/when and where you take photos but having the option to just take body with a lens on it and nothing else is very nice for me. YMMV.

Yes I can see the attraction. However having a kilo + hanging off my camera as a walkabout isn't fun at all. I love the range and build quality but, and again I stress ... for me, I'd prefer my small, faster, lighter, just as good or even better, primes, both when walking around and especially when backpacking (all of my wides are primes but the 70-180 is king for tele), far more comfortable.

I find the 70-180 which I love, a wonderful lens, unwieldy, this 35-150 adds another 300g plus additional length and girth to that. So for me it's just reinforced my beliefs, even if the idea was great, however I absolutely understand that 'YMMV' for others in different situations.

The 70-180 is an amazing lens. I just came back from 2 weeks in Tibetan Sichuan (link above) a trip cut short by 3 weeks because of a CV outbreak meaning I needed to get a PCR test every 48 hrs, just not worth continuing, I'll go back in the Spring.

However, I ramble, what I was going to say is that over 70% of my 1,300 shots were taken with the 70-180 (landscape, mountains, street, portraits) and most of the others with the utterly superb Samyang 24/1.8. Fully agree on the MF/AF button but at least that's an easy workaround.

Yeah based on your usage profile, where you are either primarily past 70mm or at 24mm, this lens would not suit your needs, which you have accurately identified. I think the persons for whom this lens best serves are 1) event/wedding photographers, 2) close proximity sports and action photographers as turbodude excellently exemplified shooting boxing, 4) concert photographers who have limited time to get a slew of various shots, and 5) any photographer whose general usage profile aligns with the 35-150 focal range (or would if they had it). I am squarely in the last category, being just a hobbyist

Which lenses do you have left? If I remember correctly you mentioned you have a sigma 65i and 105 1.4. I'm assuming those are your low light/portrait lenses and the Tamron can cover everything else except wide angle (for which you are getting the other Tamron?).

That's my impression as well regarding rendering, not in direct comparison to G2 but in general (from my limited usage so far).
I'd say it doesn't break sharpness records like some primes, but it's really solid in that area and coupled with pleasant rendering that makes for some really nice images.

I don't really have anything to prove that with as there was basically no sunlight here since Thursday, but maybe I can find something from a visit to an indoor kids play center...

Ok, a couple (sorry for that crappy lightning and AWB ):

I'm impressed by this lens. Sharp with nice rendering. Somehow Tamron found a great balance for this zoom.

Right, I do have the 65i (since I love this focal length ) and the Sigma 105 1.4. Haven't used it really, but I will keep it because I like 105mm more than 135 (had the 135mm 1.8 briefly) and its bokeh is just delicious. But it's really heavy so only for a very narrow user case.

I am sure the Tamron 35-150 will cover most of my pictures. I will buy the 17-28 but I know I won't get even close to shooting 10% of all my shots with it since I'm not a wide angle photographer. For light Tavel, sigma 24-70 2.8 + tamron 17-28 2.8 + sigma 65i. In my pocket the incredible Ricoh GR IIIx.
When I travel (most of my photography) the Sigma 105 1.4 is not an option. However, I will take the 65i with me. And probably the Batis 40 since it is a lightweight. Yes, the Tamron covers the same focal range and basically also the aperture, however, the Batis 40 is really special (bokeh balls etc.). So I will (probably) keep the Batis=> but hardly use it ).

Edit: I also have the Sigma 28-70 f2.8 if the Tamron 35-150 is not an option because of its size/weight. So for casual photography. It's basically smaller/lighter than a lot of primes.

This lens is something else. the more i shoot with it, the more i love it. It became the envy of the other photogs tonight at the Latin Grammys red carpet . everyone was asking me why i was only using one body for the red carpet, when we traditionally have two. they have never seen or even heard of such a lens, and were very sad when i told them it was only sony e mount.

So sharp and accurate eye af focus .

Love your photos and blog post on Sichuan. Amazing landscapes! I also shoot a lot of telephoto for landscapes, so I'm not sure that the 35-150 is long enough for me, but it's shaping up to be a really great lens by the looks of it.

Nice! ... and I thought you only do sports .

I'm starting to consider the Tamron a first non-Sony "system seller", as long as it's available only in FE mount .
It's really unique across the brands and with IQ to boot...

Vistek Canada claim they have this in stock, however, I am not sure if they would ship the lens to the US:
https://www.vistek.ca/store/447464/tamron-35150mm-f228-di-iii-vxd-lens-for-sony-e-mount
Furthermore, if my understanding is correct, the Canadian version comes with a 6-year warranty which probably makes the lens a bit more expensive than the US version.

I think Tamron has that 6 year warranty in U.S. as well.

VIP members have a lifetime warranty.
