I finally got around to testing how this lens compares on my thin sensor modded camera compared to the OEM sensor stack. The framing shifts so very slightly between them, but I think the difference is clear. The scene brutal in terms of longer distance busy bokeh and the thin sensor modded camera is definitely smoother because there's a lot less field curvature.

Interesting, as the lens should be already optimized for Sony stack... I wonder if there's any negative of using it on thin stack, as the bokeh looks a lot better .

Yes, but that doesn't mean the sensor stack isn't affecting the curvature and actually pulling the focus on the outer bit of the frame forward toward the camera. I should probably do a curvature test to see the form field curvature takes on each sensor at some point, but my real job is eating my time, atm.
The test was prompted by a comment Bastian made a while back, either on his blog or here (I can't remember), that he had a suspicion that the sensor stack might improve things. It's also true for the 45mm, which has far worse curvature.

I am thinking of getting this lens and would love to see the curvature test on each type of sensor. I suspect the lens has wavy curvature on a stock sensor, but the focus curves away from the camera on the thin sensor camera. If the focus plane curves away from the camera, then one cost may be that if you focus off center--let's say at the rule of thirds--the center might be sharp closer to the focus point than the off-center focus point making weird bokeh and suboptimal focus toward the center on such shots.
That's my biggest gripe about this lens (well, apart from lightsabers), bokeh is really nice only in the center. The closer to the edge you get, the more compelling Sigma 1.2 starts to look ...
