I've been looking for a fast lens around this focal length, and was waiting to see how their 45mm f0.95 might perform - I'm guessing it will likely be very similar.
I have their 15mm F2.0, and like it (solid build quality) do wish their lenses had electronic contacts.
Watching the video review, I'm not digging the internal reflections (shades of Samyang's otherwise excellent 135...)
I can see the appeal, but I think I'll agree with the DPReview review in saying that this lens seems to be more aimed at video purposes. Bastian in his review did really get it nailed on for photos though; probably no mean feat on his part!

Yep, at 1:45 in the dpreview vid.
This is a comparison I would be interested in and the presenter can be pretty funny. I'm not sure I got much more from it than the size comparison and that the Laowa has a longer focus throw ..both lenses are mf and fast anyways.

His videos are very entertaining, but rarely informative.

I made a mistake, only the de-clicked aperture was mentioned in the official press conference a few months ago, but the official website that it is the de-clicked / clicked switch.
I own the TTArtisans 35mm F0.95 APSc lens. It over-covers the crop sensor. For only $250 or so it’s a cheap way to checkout the fuzzy world of F0.95. Yes you lose about half your pixels cropping a FF sensor but then the IQ is so low you can’t see it.
Sure it gets better as you stop down but then most any F1.4 of F2.0 lens is much better. So no way I would spend $900 to move a fuzzy novelty effects lens from a crop to FF sensor.
You are completely ignoring angle of view. You can just use a 50/1.4 rather than cropping a 35/0.95 from APSC.
Meanwhile, anyone else catch the DP Review guy saying “point zero nine five lens” once? 😀 368mm aperture!

I love this announcement. More power to Laowa. Seems to be a unique lens.
I use 50 and 35 interchangeably…any of the two do the job for me. My CV 50 1.2 will do the job for now, having similar background blur capability as a 35/.095. Perhaps more. Focal lengths are different but not too far off for me, though i prefer 35…even then, 50 does allow to include quite a bit of background when doing a portrait or candids.

I'm glad Laowa added this feature. Now we just need to continue nagging them until they add EXIF electronic transmission to their lenses.

Indeed that would be nice. This is an interesting lens for sure but to see my Sigma 35mm 1.2 "bokeh smoothness" championship taken away the Laowa...it hurts me
