p.1 #1 · Sony at the Olympics...

I've been watching the sidelines more than the athletes. I've been impressed with how many Sony shooters are present at these games. I'm seeing like maybe 1 in 5. I've yet to watch a sport and not find a Sony shooter in the brief glimpses we are given of the photographers. A couple events I could only find Sony with no Canon and Nikon shooters. Well done Sony, well done. I will keep watching to see if this trend holds out as I add more data points.

It only matters if with popularity Sony can mass produce like Canon & lower price which we know will not happen. Confirmation bias can lead to erroneous conclusions.

AP shoots only Sony so that has got to make a big impact.

I think I count four Sony's and one Apple in this pit

Haha, fun game

I think I counted 4 photographers with 5 Sony cameras and there's a 600GM lens hood visible in the top left (red ring?).

Sometimes you can make out a Sony/GM sling, sometimes the camera Sony logo, the "GM" badge on the lens or the A9/A1 top dials.

Really? The thousands of hours these athletes devoted to their training and we watch the sidelines to count cameras?

In that photo I'd say my ratio estimate was a bit high. What is more interesting is the lack of Nikon. I only see four which is on par with Sony. One black lens is a Canon with black lens coat on it. Canon dominates that pic.

Those photographers probably also devoted thousands of hours to their craft

Right, then enjoy the photos they capture at the olympics rather than gawking at the sidelines and counting cameras.

Same happens at football and basketball games. But then, those cheerleaders are a lot more fun to watch.

Have you actually tried watching these 2020 Olympics? The lack of fans makes watching boring sports even more boring than usual. Counting cameras is the only reason I'm even turning it on once in a while.

If you are enjoying it then all the power to you. But don't come in here and tell the rest of us what we should or should not be doing.

I didn't really get the lower price like Canon part? I kind feel Canon cost more?

Yep, watched many of the highlights, particularly liked the women’s triathlon that was won by someone at their 4th Olympics. I’m not telling you what to watch…just commenting on your observations. Keep on tuning in and counting cameras…that must be more exciting than watching the athletes…power to you.

Between watching cheerleaders and counting cameras, do you even know who is playing or even what sport is being played?

chez, did you forget where you are?

Kinda like walking into an athletes forum and berating the "athletes" for not paying attention to the photographers....lol.

Gave me a good chuckle at least...

(Would it bother you if I said I 'hate' sports but I really enjoy photography and have the greatest respect for the men and women dedicated to capturing it, not to mention the gear they use? )

Carry on...

All I know is I am entertained in the lowest rated Olympics in quite a while. But honestly, my wife I watch every volleyball match we can. Women's gymnastics, anything synchronized, and (oddly) slalom canoe.

I have no interest in watching other people play sports on TV. That includes sports I was active playing.

I like the individual sports the most. Races like the marathon and 100m sprint are epic.

To me watching sports is like watching porn. If I am not playing, I am not watching.

Send me in coach!!!

If it wasn’t for sports, I would not have a TV.
