Love hats..not in the US summers though!
NIce hat and color coordinated with his suit jacket!! I would have liked to see more of the hat and his outfit but just my personal opinion!

I like the mood and the framing a lot, and I think you captured a genuine expression. If I were to critique, I would say that the skin seems a tad over saturated, and I wish the grey suit didn't blend in so much with the grey background on the left side of the photo. Otherwise good work.
People shots are my favorite images. I am a pretty simple man, and I have a pretty simple criteria for whether this type of shot "works" for me or not...
Does the photograph capture the soul of the individual? Am I seeing "them"?
In this case, for me, the answer is a resounding "yes". I think you captured this gentlemen very well. It is an honest image-devoid of shenanigans or trickery. I am an older gentleman and I am very comfortable with that thank you. I am in my element and my hat makes me look quite distinguished, doesn't it.
After that?
Well yea the left side looks a bit odd...and maybe you could try a tighter portrait crop...of maybe this or maybe that...(all quite subjective honestly).
But the shot "works" because the gentlemen allowed you to see "him" and you were prepared with the tools and knowledge to get the shot.
