The current 105 is so much better optically than its predecessors (even wide open there is virtually no LoCA and sharpness is already near peak) that not being able to accept TC is something i can live with if it meant absolutely no compromise in optical quality...I honestly would just prefer a newer version of the 200mm macro.
An update on my extension tube experiment: I failed to make it work.
I trimmed the tube’s mount flange, but I couldn’t trim enough baffling away to clear the TC’s front element. Or rather, I couldn’t trim enough away without grinding down a screw that holds the baffle in place. And (at least on this Meike-branded tube), the baffle contains the electronic contacts, so I can’t simply remove it.
Unless there’s another Z-mount extension tube out there that has much more clearance in its internal baffles, I don’t think this is possible.
Looks like our >1:1 options on Z mount remain restricted to tubes, Laowa lenses, or F-mount lenses.

I have re-bought the 105 today. Couldn't pass up on a local deal for $950 CAD (~$740 USD). The lens is 4 months old and in pristine condition. Bless the system switchers.
