p.1 #1 · Dancing the night away in Kyiv (candid shots)
I was recently in Kyiv and had a chance to hit a popular nightclub in Kyiv over the course of 2 nights. I wanted to see how my Sony a9 would fare in such a challenging environment. Lots of sudden changes in lighting, smoke machines set to overkill, and blinding strobes. And let's not mention the overall darkness of venues like this. Despite all this chaos, I had a blast and discovered I really enjoy shooting places like this. Not sure how many nightclubs are open to it here in NYC but I'd take another swing at it if given the chance. I'm super impressed with how good the Sony a9 was.

Thanks all. Some of them tracked me down on Instagram and asked me to send them copied. One ended up using a shot as their avatar. It's a great feeling when you make someone's day with a photo of themselves they really like.
This was so fun to do. the second night I had some people jumping in front of me to get my attention so I'd get their picture. Too funny.
And I actually met a Ukrainian photographer there who using film exclusively. Very interesting chat on that. He says it's making a bit of a comeback.

That is what photography is all about! Fun and instructive while allowing creativity to present itself!
Gud job!

Greatly appreciated everyone.
One thing that frustrated me was a handful of really nice shots took a hit with dark horizontal lines/banding. They are somewhat visible due to the electronic shutter and unpredictable led lights flashing and doing their thing. No photo like this was totally "ruined" but it's there if you look closely, especially if there's lots of smoke.
A common problem in situations like this, though.
Next time I'm trying my luck with the mechanical shutter. But you take a big drop in speed (20 fps to 5 fps) which would have resulted in me missing some moments.
Can't win them all I guess.
Overall I am very happy with what I was able to get and I'm glad you've all enjoyed them.
