p.1 #1 · DXO Nik Collection 4 is just out ... and it's broken!
Ok, I made a rookie mistake. DXO just announced an update to Nik Collection. It has a several features I was interested in, so I grabbed it and installed it. Mistake!
First, the freakin' menu takes up 40% of the screen on my 4k Dell laptop. Second, when I registered it, it crashed PS. Third, when I try to open the new version of Silver FX it won't, saying first that it "isn't available", and then when I try it again that it can't complete the command because the "disk is full".

To follow up ... the filters work for me on Win10 and LrC. Silver Efex3 and Viveza 3 do not work in PS. I get the "disk is full" message on both. This is even after I followed the instructions from DXO tech on how to resolve the issue. Agree with Rajan, amateur hour.

None of the reported problems occur for me either. I am running the latest version of Windows 10 and the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop. It does seem weird that they updated the user interface to Viveza and Silver Effects, but none of the other plugins.

What did the DxO tech suggest to resolve the issue?
I still have an open ticket and they haven't yet gotten back to me.
If the problem is still present, can you please confirm that all graphics drivers are up to date?
Please also open one of the Nik Collection apps as a standalone program. Color Efex Pro will do. When you do this, a window should open asking if you want to participate in Nik metrics. Select your answer and click on 'Proceed'. The window will close. You can now close the app and restart Photoshop. When you select a Nik app, it should now run correctly for you.
If this does not work, please do the following.
Please disable GPU for image processing. You can do this in Silver Efex, or HDR Efex Pro and try to reproduce the issue.

Sounds like a crap shoot. Given that a few members already reported the problem...maybe DXO should try recreate it and provide a solution.
I'm still hanging onto my Google version and in no way am I paying DXO money if they produce garbage with it.

Todd,
I just figured out how to make Viveza work. See if it works for you -
Go to the plugin panel in Photoshop (after you click on Automate --> Nik)
Then click on the Settings gear icon and see if you have the following fields. The last one was creating the problem. You have to set it to "Apply in Photoshop."

Hi Rajan,
Just tried it and no go. The setting was to use Nik, but changing it did not fix the issue for me. I wonder if the reason it's working for you is that you're on a Mac.
Anyway, the real frustration here for me is that it is only the two new modules that break. Well, that and the fact that it just shouldn't break this way at all.

It works for me with Lightroom, and all the old modules work just fine in Photoshop. It's the two, updated modules (Silver Efex and Viveza) that break.

The disk full message for SFX3 and Viveza3 seems to be an undocumented filesize limit or more likely a bug. Older plugins are not affected. I noticed this with Fuji GFX50 files, about 8260 horizontal resolution, 16 bit single layer. The file opens the reducing by horizontal resolution to about 7600 or the bit depth to 8 bit / channel. This is of course unacceptable. I filed a bug report. This is with PhotoShop CC 2021 22.4 on Mac. Big Sur 11.4.
Unrelated to this, SFX3 crashes during save (invoked from PS CC 2021 22.4.1). Another bug report. Downgrading to 22.4 avoids this but then I ran into the problem above. Definitely not ready for prime time.

Was asked to do a diagnostic dump for DXO, and did. I got this reply ...
"Thank you for everything that you have provided to us.
Our team has identified the issue and we're working hard to provide a fix a soon as possible. The diagnostic is always useful. I am sending them to our developers at this time.
Thank you for your patience."
Not the most confidence inspiring. Will update when I hear back.
