I've purchased a couple of the base Cobalt DNG packs for my cameras and was interested in a couple of the add-on/emulation packs. I've recently started to do more work in black and white. Does anyone have experience with the Leica Monochrom CCD pack? I have no experience with this camera, but am wondering if this pack would provide a better starting point or more control for black and white conversions than using, for example, the B&W adjustment layer in PS or the Adobe Monochrome profile?
The purpose of the Leica Monochrom CCD emulation is to replicate the way Leica's monochrome sensor views the world, as accurately and scientifically as possible.
It is still possible to make any type of change desired through all the tools made available to Lightroom or ACR, the conversion to BW is carried out at the end of the chain. The only limit is your own creativity.
However, in all honesty, I can't tell you if this is the best starting point for BW editing, I can only say that the Monochrom CCD emulation is practically perfect.
I already have the Kodachrome pack, which I like (and just downloaded version 3.1, which looks very different, so I'll experiment with it).
My question is: if I was to get just one other pack aimed at portraits and people photography (in particular my young son), which one would you recommend?
I'm using a Sony A9 and A7Riii, and Lightroom CC. I have other profiles (eg from RNI), many of which I like, but I found it difficult to land on a profile that I like often enough for portraits, so I keep picking a different one for each photo.
S5 Pro emulation looks interesting. Particularly cause my S5 Pro sorta doesnt make such pics.
Only thing apart regular color profiles that peaked my interest was Kodak films, cause I like almost any attempt in that direction. Its like flavours, even if they not great, they can be interesting. Got whole ton of these on my HDD, no Cobalt ones so far.
I bought just color profiles for my S5 Pro. It definitely does its job better than ACR or DCraw defaults. Its not perfect, but I suspect making perfect color profile for S5 Pro just isnt possible due camera design, until someone makes DNG splitter.

Just a heads up - I emailed you but it bounced back.
