p.1 #1 · Need a way to transfer files from a camera to an external ssd drive
I m looking for a way to transfer files from a camera to an external ssd drive while on the field. Think of a long multi day hiking/camping trip. I have an andriod phone, I can bring an Andriod tablet, but wont have a laptop. I suppose there are some usb cables/adaptors I can buy that will connect the camera to the phone and drive at the same time, thus allowing files to be copied from the camera to the drive? Looking for some advice.

Think of your phone as a tiny computer. About 2 yrs ago i did this on a 3 week trip. External ssd came with a usb type c cord that mates with phone. Get a similar cord to patch from card reader to phone. Use a 2 step process, copying fist from card to temporary main storage in phone and then from phone to ssd. Use an android app equivalent to file explorer to manage the moves. On camera i suggest starting a new subdirectory file (dsc 002, dsc003 etc) every day.
You can use phone gallery app to review images on the ssd.

There are ssd's that have a built in card reader. I'd suggest going this route rather than the must slower phone route. Keep your phone batteries charged for emergency use.

I have a RAVPower FileHub Plus. It has a integrated router, SD slot, miniUSB port and USB-A port.
I have a NIKON D810 and D750 and usually copy a SD card to a portable drive while continuing o shoot with another card. I could copy files from the D750 using Wifi, but I don’t.
It has a built-in battery, I could use it to charge my phone in a pinch.
