I picked up a new EF 50/1.4 USM in 2013; it was somewhat unreliable with the 60D I had when I purchased the lens, but on the 6D I bought later that year, it nails focus when I do my part! Since then, I've been regularly surprised both at the accuracy of the lens with the 6D, as well as its 'qualities' at various apertures. I don't think the new RF 50/1.8 STM will outresolve it stop-for-stop either, and as it stands, that's the only lens that's really comparable outside of the EF 50/1.8 STM.
Can confirm, I used the 50mm f/1.4 on my 6D and loved it. It nailed focus surprisingly well, but I also think the 20MP 6D's sensor was particularly forgiving in that regard. I liked the rendering and the colors (when stopped down), but wide open it suffered quite a lot from loss of saturation, contrast, and some kind of flaring aberration (maybe coma, as was mentioned).
I now have an older Sigma EX 50mm f/1.4 paired with my R, and I also like its rendering while it has superior color and contrast wide open, but it doesn't seem quite as sharp as the Canon offering (though that could be due to the resolution bump and AA filter differences). Can also confirm that the older Sigma is a quirky sonofagun, and I wouldn't really recommend it to someone who is using the lens for more serious "work".
Is the EF 24-70 f4 L discontinued? Everyone seems out of stock for new. B&H doesn't even list it anymore. It too had a pretty short life span if this is true. Glad I got mine a few years ago.

Actually it has been around for about 8 years. So far I'm not too impressed with the RF lenses. There is definitely going to be a gap for a few years or more.
I bought the 24-70 as backup and alternate to my original 24-105 in early 2019 when the "EF is doomed" talk started in earnest. I like the near macro feature. My 24-105 is still going strong after 15 years so between the two I should get at least another 15. So far the only mirrorless feature I like is the automated focus bracketing/stacking and my M6II does that. My 5D4 and collection of EF lenses do everything I need. Maybe I'm not a serious enough photographer to want to reinvest in a new mount.

Like the much maligned EF 50mm f/1.4 with a plethora of 50mm alternatives from Canon, Sigma, and others?
Personally, I like my EF 50mm f/1.4 very much. Stopped down, it's the sharpest lens I own. That may not say much for my lens collection, but it's true. I find this lens very useful, especially since it is easily pocketable. It's the one lens that I always have with my camera. If I had a Sigma Art, which I did consider, I don't know if I'd be able to say that.
