p.1 #2 · A Mother's Love

Jim, those are well-excited endearing images! They earned my V!

Personally, I prefer the second image by quite a bit. The affection, the rendition and tonality are great. Just the brightness of the sleeve of the boy in the second image is a tad too strong, IMHO. I know there is a light source hitting that light fabric. If somehow it can be toned down, it would make a stronger image, at least IMHO.

The first image is more about the son; he is rendered quite a bit brighter and he is more prominent in that image, while the mother is rendered on the slightly darker tone. Similar to the previous image, I believe his left hand and right sleeve is a tad too bright and takes a little bit away from him.

p.1 #4 · A Mother's Love

Thanks Joshua. The first image is exactly as you state. The boy is the object of his mother's love, and I did push him forward.
It is that whole mothers being quietly behind the scene, but are actually the foundation that kids stand upon. How mothers put
their kids (family) needs before their own. Mothers sometimes choose to be a sustaining force that encourage growth in their kids
by being selfless. From my pov the first image is more about the mother, and the son is benefiting from her effort. She may be in
shadow, but she is not hidden. This image hung in my commercial studio for years and got two responses. Either a mother got it,
and wanted one like it - or they gravitated to the hair on the boy, and wanted to make sure I did something like that for their hair.

The second image was serendipity. I had placed them both at the same level and in test shots my highlight warning indicator went
crazy. However, adjusting the pose lost the wonderful catch lights in their eyes. We were doing many setups, but I choose to get
the catch lights even though the highlight off the sleeve were so bright. Eliminating that highlight in post processing ruined the image.
Neither image is perfect, but I like both of them. BTW - this is my wife, and youngest of seven. He will graduate from college soon.
