I appreciate your kind words, Aaron! During the mating period, which typically lasts for several days, the falcons do mate more than once on a single day, most of the time. We don’t know how often and what actually trigger it . After following their behavior for a while, one could guess when the mating period would be. There are a few unknown factors that you need to get presentable images and that requires the falcons to cooperate. One is the distance where they mate from our position; we were standing on a cliff ledge and it is not that easy to move around and if they decide to mate about a mile away, we can forget about getting decent images at that distance. Second, is the actual mating position of the falcons. I saw them mate at a fairly close distance but facing away from me to my chagrin... .
Once a year though, I do get lucky and I could capture a complete mating sequence at a decent distance and proper falcon position. Thank you!
