Or there are people like me that have no logical reason or need for buying it. I just wanted it. I am finding so many things to like about it now that I have it.

It is sort of like buying expensive cars. Which I don't do anymore. I am over them. They make no sense on a logical or need basis either.

There is absolutely no reason why the A1 can’t be an outstanding camera for landscape, portraiture or other genres. For me, I paid the premium for the A1’s combination of speed and resolution. If I didn’t shoot birds and airshows, I would not have paid $6500 for a camera. I suspect most folks who post in this thread feel the same way. I am aware some folks bought it for the flash sync speed for portrait but they aren’t posting much here. They are probably pros busy making money with the camera, unlike us birdie hobbyists.

Thanks Douglas.

Yep “ speed and resolution”, sums it up well.
1/240 s sensor readout time, silent shutter, virtually no rolling electronic shutter artifacts,
50 MP, correctly working blackout free EVF, speedy operation, Eye-AF, BEAF, user configurability, etc.

I got “hooked/spoiled” by my A9 back in 2017.
It was so much more responsive than any other camera I had.
The main thing missing was more pixels and better crop-ability.
That helps with lack of reach of some tele lenses by zooming in via port-processing.
I consider that a way to reduce the weight of the camera/tele lens system.
In other words, two for one images, overview and detail.

In short, with appropriate lenses, an all-purpose digital camera,
even a really nice Point & Shoot system, a bit large and heavy, but nice.

K-H.

It's a similar case for me: I wanted that "one" camera for everything.
Sure, it's not the best in every category but close enough.
While this might be a silly reason for some/most, I always enjoyed electronic shutter with my previous A7III and A1 is unrivalled in this aspect. I also wanted even better AF, faster operation and more resolution and A1 provides all of that . I also plan to get serious about flash photography at some point in time...
I've come to accept the fact that for my usage A1 is definitely an overkill, but I can't help I'm loving it .
I was considering switching to R5 at one point (that RF50 f1.2 ), but decided against as I was already invested quite a bit in Sony glass. There's no reason for me to do that now, as even in the battle of the ultra-fast 50s, Sony seems to be the better one, so I'm glad I waited...

We always enjoy!

Poof took the sister and brother in law out in the canoe Saturday and saw two Osprey, two GBHs, and two Kinfishers.
I went out on Sunday and saw one GBH 20 million miles away ha!

Unfortunately Animal Eye AF was more like Nose AF on the last shot, but nothing a little brush with clarity couldn't solve.
