Fantastic shots. I can't help but notice some of them were not shot wide open on the lens. Some were f/7.1 or f/8. Was that intentional? For an increased dof to get the whole subject in focus?

I stopped down just to get a little extra DOF to cover slight focus shifts (misses). With the instability shooting from kayak brings I like to have a little more insurance than I would shooting from land. I also find that on the high MP sensors (A7RIV/A1) that the 200-600 shows some IQ improvement stopped down a little bit. The A9 sort of hid that on the lower MP sensor. I'm still happy with the 200-600 wide open on the A1 but if I have the light and a background far enough away then I will go down to 7.1 or 8.
This morning I'm going to take the 600GM out on the kayak and try again for the KFs to see how that works out. My arms may not last
This is 117 consecutive frames....you know, "spray and pray"....at 30FPS. Viewing at 100% I found three frames that jumped out of focus which you may be able to catch in the gif. Remarkably at 30FPS each time the very next frame was tack sharp catchlight again. Impressive...is this better than FW 1.01?....I don't know....but I can't ask for much better than this.
At the end the rapid deceleration as the KF hit the water contributed to photographer error
I was happy to nail a couple interesting frames right at the end as it dipped along the way.

Blooming impressive Geoff , I've not tried my friends R5's enough yet but must admit the A1 takes some beating for what it offers . Regards FW1.10 , I did find the bird eye AF box was quicker on the target and stickier , its also quicker for Peregrines in flight . Can't say if its actually giving me more keepers
