Funny (not HaHa funny but coincidentally) Every time I visit the U.S. and am at an airshow, I have never seen the Blue Angels... I always have the Thunderbirds (I'm from Canada). Last couple were Chicago Airshow and Thunder of Niagara. All my plane photos are white and red (my Canadian ones as well, the Snow Birds use that same color scheme).
I'd love to get the Blue Angels. I think I did see a show once when they were there but was too many years ago before I was into DIgital and don't remember taking any pictures.

Well, Robert, I had an interesting encounter with a gosling yesterday when I was standing on some rocks photographing a waterfall, I heard chirping so I looked around, there was a lone 3 or 4 days old gosling climbing from rock to rock, apparently lost from the family. I didn't think I could catch him so I kept watching, eventually he jumped into a 2'x2' hole in a rock that was filled with water, I thought that would be a good chance to catch him since it didn't look like he could get out of that hole, as I approached the hole, I saw a copperhead lying about 2' from the hole, I carefully scooped up the gosling without disturbing the snake. I was sure the gosling would have been the snake's lunch had I not rescued him. I took the gosling to the park's office and let them deal with him. Even though Canada geese can be pests in adulthood but I couldn't stand not helping a helpless baby....Show more →
Finally got the chance to shoot NHL with the A1's. Covid restrictions have lifted a bit.
Was testing crop mode tonight to see what i could get away with.
a1 with 24-105 G in crop mode
a1 with 70-200GM with 1.4x and crop mode. Works really well, but not sure id choose this over a 400 2.8 from up top, though 400 is a little tight, hard to see plays develop.
Fantastic non-birds! Just know a lot of us shoot bierds because there's nothing else to shoot! I really enjoy the non-bierd shots and if I lived anywhere near something sports I'd def. give it a try.
Poured rain all day yesterday and the high was 46F. I decided to put the winter garb on and head down to the dock anyway/bored working inside (the remodeling will never end with a woman in the house!).
So I'm making a list of species I have here where we retired to compared to the old house.
Swallows, Barreds, Dark-eyed Juncos, Canada Geese, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Great Blue Herons,
Broad-wing Hawks, all seen so far.
But NO Red-tailed Hawks

Wow, excellent shots! I “used to” go to a few games for fun each year and many college games.
We’re those SOOTC or raw processed?
What did you find yourself using the most for focus modes? And if tracking, we’re you using 1 (locked on) or 5 (responsive), or somewhere in between?

i use JPG for deadline sports. So it has some light edits, but nothing drastic due to the ethics of editorial. I used Tracking Spot Small (my go to for most sports), Face AF off, response 3.

All that makes sense. But I’m not sure I follow on the face AF off. Is that because of the potential for overriding/changing where you wanted focus?

yes and because the players wear faceshields, im afraid with hockey, focus may grab someone in the crowd.

Ahh, yes. Great little tidbits. Thanks again and keep posting. Really nice to see this kind of photography in addition to the more common birding shots here.
A little something different for me tonight. Shot sports Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but tonight was a HS senior session. But, one sports image from Tuesday, probably my favorite of the week.
The A1 is just a joy to use. Probably a 99% AF accuracy rate and so much better than my a7r4 in nailing focus with the eyeAF. It just doesn't miss. I don't miss the extra pixels. I am just blown away every time I come home and look at the images on my big monitor. The images are malleable, helping with highlights and shadows. I don't know if I am getting more work because of it yet as I've been fortunate to be very busy the last couple of months, but I do know it's just easier to work with. Whether it's transferring files wirelessly to a remote computer for viewing, or nailing focus, business life is easier. These are all with the 24-70 2.8 GM or 70-200 2.8GM.
