It's been awhile since I picked up a camera, I heard the shorties have migrated back and was lucky enough to have about 8 in the area one evening. This one decided to take a break but realized there was a thorny limb in its face
Kenny, I wondered where you have been. Nice shots. I need to get over there soon. I have only been out once and they were keeping their distance that day.

Hey Bill, I was hoping to see you out there the last few times I’ve been out. Hope you and the family are doing well. If you get a chance, go soon, they are quite frisky, I was out there today, there was one about 100 feet from me barking, it took flight around 5pm. I had packed up as I wasn’t feeling well, so no photos from tonight, but there were about 5-6 in the area
Here is a short sequence of an eagle catching a fish dropped by the eagle he was chasing. The action was far far away. This was cropped to about 1/16 of the frame,

Excellent sequence Douglas!
And the image held up quite well to such a substantial crop!

There appears to be some slight distortion. However, it has the positive effect of giving the appearance of motion to the eagle's attack rather than simply freezing it in place. I like it.

Thank you Robert! More from last week. I may go to Conowingo for few hours today and that will be my last trip for bald eagles this season, onto looking for snowies and SEOs, I have seen them only twice in my life
Just a few shots so far out of 9-10K I shot yesterday during a good SEO session.
I'm dreading culling the rest but will get to them over the holidays.
I think if I had the A1II I could have saved myself some shots and just fired when the owl did something really interesting. Too many anticipation shots taken with the A1. Who knows though, may have worked out about the same.
I know for certain pre-capture would have got me a more unique shot when the owl flew by me and did one of its "clap, clap" downstrokes. I wasn't firing at the time as it was just gliding by and I didn't react in time...I was focusing so pre-capture would have got it.
I guess I have to order the A1II after all.

From mid Nov till now, some of our Short-Eared owls have moved on to other roosting area as there are about 4-6 in the refuge now. Here's one spotting a meal
Looks like a good evening. Started to go this evening but the wind changed my mind. Heading to a place I have been wanting to check out. Very nice series, Ken.
