Nice captures indeed. As a matter of curiosity, how many FPS do you get with the 70-200 GM? How is AF? Some youtubers have reported mediocre performance with this combo and there were some rumours about firmware update which never came.
The info about needing firmware comes from Sony "AF tracking during continuous shooting can be improved by updating the lens system software to the latest version." which refers specifically to the 70-200GM. AFAIK it is still unclear whether "latest version" simply means the last one published, which is pretty old.

That is a (European) Jay. Quite a fast flyer. The bird starts out sitting on a post behind a hedge that has some long, thin young growth sticking out of the top. So I used small flexible spot to focus on him while he was sitting on the post. When he took off, he is iniatially still behind the braches which is what you can see blurred in the foreground. As he got closer he rose over the hedge and in image three, he spotted me and decided to do a very sharp left turn. I got image four before he left the frame. For the flight shots, I was using Tracking Zone AF area. BEAF was active all the time but I don't know if it helped....Show more →
Awesome!. Thanks for the explanation. One more quick question. How did you switch between flexible spot and zone? Custom hold?

Sorry that didn't last long....here are the birds from this morning
The swallows were not cooperating and coming down to feed on the water. So just some overcropped shots that don't look all that great. Hopefully swallow season picks up soon.
Good luck with more swallow shots. The one with bug is still amazing. Last one (ducks fighting) also fantastic..

I have the Video, AF-On and AEL buttons programmed for Recall Custom Hold 1, 2 and 3. Activating them is very fast on the A1. Much quicker than the A9II.
At Geoff's suggestion I have AF on the shutter button and can switch between Wide, Zone, Centre and Small Flex Spot via a button. Then I have Centre Tracking on the Video button, Tracking Zone on the AF-On button and Small Flex Spot on the AEL button via Recall Custom Holds. I can switch the non-tracking options to tracking by pressing the Lens function button. That gets me most things I need.

Yep, that's it. I just logged out of my gmail/google account and now only see icons. Will have to decide what to do, no Flickr account at the moment.
Give @HelenaN a PM
think she had similar problems and solved it

Went to a local Audubon Sanctuary yesterday, not too much around yet (just starting to see the spring birds come back) but I was surprised to see a couple of Swallows flying around (this place has open fields and Swallow boxes for nesting season). Got there around 2pm so lighting was awful, but figured I'd stop back by at the end of the day, unfortunately when I came back there were zero swallows. The good thing is I only had 1 close'ish pass of a Swallow and I was able to get a couple of in-focus shots without a problem
Other then that just some chickadees. Mallards and Canada Goose.
These photos are tremendous! Any one looking to see the general/landscape capability of this camera, and enjoy some great creative image making, should go back to this post!

I agree. Is the third one in first set and third one in second set are same bird and fish? Awesome shots...
The three grebe pics are all the same grebe. He caught three fish as I watched. The fish got away from him a couple times and he dove under and grabbed it again. So in that third pic in the 1st set the fish had leaped away from him. I'm not sure if that was the same fish as in the other two sets but it was all the same grebe over a period of 5mins or so.
